The issue was never about age-of-consent laws in the straightforward sense. As Joswift was saying, those weren't violated. However, she filed a civil suit alleging that she was the victim of sex trafficking and sexual assault. It never went to trial, so her version of events was not proven and there was obvious skepticism around her claims of being under duress.
