NABBA and becoming a PRO
« on: May 04, 2006, 10:57:27 AM »
Hi guys. Just wanted to pass a bit of info.

I have been granted PRO status by Wayne Demilia of Pro Division Inc. because of my NABBA 2005 nationals overall win.  This is not some huge announcement or signing as there will be much bigger named people competing.

Just wanted to encourage you all to check out competing in the NABBA, especially the jr. nationals and nationals this fall. By winning the NABBA overall nationals, you can petition to become a Pro in the PDI. You can also compete in other organizations.

Hopefully PDI will be solid and a good second Pro division for BBing and the athletes.  Out of all the BBers out there, there are so few actual pros in our sport.  PDI are also putting more emphasis on aesthetics than the current IFBB so this should help move BBing back in the right direction. Similar to NABBA which rewards physiques which are muscular and aesthetic.  Big guts and synthol need not apply.

Check out www.NABBA.com

Take care,

-John

And if your theory is correct, at 5th Rhino would still earn more money from that one show than 75% of IFBB pros would earn the entire pro season, right? ;)

Sadly as more competitors are announced Mr. London will make more money with his hot dog stand and fetching coffee then any bodybuilding show he enters

THIS is what is keeping Manion up nights... he could care less about the IFBB, but by recognizing "pros" from NABBA and other organizations, the PDI has become a threat to the NPC, which is his real bread & butter.

Amen to that.

And yes, NiceRacq, there are others who have signed and/or committed to the PDI shows in the fall.  However the terms of their current contracts and summer shows, they're milking them until no longer possible.  Do you think a competitor would do better or worse at the NY Pro by announcing NOW that he also plans to do the NOC in the fall?

And if you say it wouldn't affect his placing at all, you have been drinking the Kool-Aid.

Calm down dear,
Just asked a question is all, no hidden Manion agenda, only curiousity.

Remember also, that there will be three(3) qualifiers, five classes, s pro cards in each class. That will make 30 more pros before the NOC.

The PDI rocks!

Incorrect.

If people know they can qualify for pro status in the PDI by placing in the top 5 of a national-level NPC event, they will *still* compete in the NPC.

The only potential 'loss' would be those folks who seem to show up year-after-year without being able to make it over the hump.  Those are the guys who've made a lot of money for the NPC, but who probably wouldn't do well at all in the IFBB, for whatever.

The PDI is perfect for them.

Note: You were right in saying that the NPC is Manion's bread and butter.  That's why you're darn right it's being protected at all costs.

Good point, except the fact that to be a Pro in the PDI, you must win your classat a national level NPC show. Top 5 won't do it.

No matter what the organization, the market is always going to reward the most talented people.

The competitors are going to bounce around in a chess game between egomaniacs, sure.  The web guys, promoters, photogs, writers, etc, will voice their opinion, but in reality, when the winds blow and one remains, all of these same ppl will still be working in the field.

So if the PDI wins, Horton will be taking pictures, Bob will be holding up a booth at shows, and it'll still be the same bunch of ppl.  If the IFBB wins, you'll still have the same crowd, and the IFBB will assimilate the PDI guys, as it'll need them.  You can't lose the group they're going to lose and not take a hit.

In the bigger scheme, arguing the PDI/IFBB is fun.  It's interesting.  But we're here for our skillsets, knowledge, and ability to sit thru events in a sport which would bore the pants off most.  The same competitors and crews and fans will be on board, no matter which puppetmaster wins and gets their name on the sign, bigger checks, and bragging rights.

I was wondering about the Bob thing.  I wonder if BB.com is going to punish Bob by having him work the booths at PDI shows.

Right now, guys who feel they can advance in their firms by acting loyal in public are going to bash the PDI.  Period.

Horton, you're trying to get ahead and make nice with your bosses. It's clear.
Chick, your loyalties are well-documented.

Bottom line is that unless we have a hand in influencing policy-making, we're doing nothing but posturing and blowing hot air, and just kicking around some words.  It's fun, it's a good way to ascertain opportunities that lie out there for us in our fields and to network.  But in 3 years, when we're at the 240 Classic in Tampa, nobody will remember any of this.

Not to start a whole "flame war" going, but what magazines are going to be covering the shows?

MD is being *awfully* friendly to the PDI.  Big writeup this month, interview with Wayne.  Also Romano's interview on the Pro Bbing radio roundtable made it abundantly clear that MD is on board.  And can you blame them? IFBB has treated then like the red haired stepchild at many shows.
