Sugar Fasting Sugar Diet Lunatics Trending?????
« on: June 11, 2025, 04:51:15 PM »
Sugar diet is all over YouTube.

Marc Bell and Cole Robinson are screaming and rambling on about how it’s a miracle diet.

As the weeks go by it looks like Bell is wasting away his muscle…looks very sickly…seems to have trouble speaking coherently…and yet he can’t stop praising this diet.

Eating only candy, jars of jam, cans of pears in syrup… then guzzling pop, sprinkling sugar on fruit, sipping honey,  and sipping maple syrup.

All things in moderation might be a good motto.

Just visually the zero carb carnivore type diet doesn't seem to be the fountain of youth. Insulin isn't all bad, "sugar" isn't evil necessarily. But eating tons of sugar isn't a panacea either. But from what I've seen this isn't something they do every day.

It works but I would only do it short term if you want to keep your teeth.

This is the first I've heard of the sugar diet but i know a lot of people around me touting their 'carnivore' diets. Not one of them has been able to tell me what impact this is having on their microbiome beyond one guy just saying 'it doesn't matter'.

I would have thought in 2025 there's enough information out there to be better informed.

There are a lot of differing ideas. Many carnivores also think vegetables are evil, outright toxins. I just look at zero carbers and to me they don't necessarily look very youthful. Much better than strict vegans though. I've eaten extremely unhealthy with extreme amounts of sugar in my life, plus cycling high insulin too. it's a miracle I don't have diabetes. Maybe genes is the #1 factor in longevity, not saying choices don't matter. A "clean" bodybuilding diet should be bad for longevity too because on paper stimulating mTor and IGF-1 constantly (through high protein primarily, but through high calories and carbs as well) should lower life expectancy.

Apart from diet I think stress and sleep are big factors wrt health. Getting too obsessed with diet will probably hurt you through stress :D

WRT gut microbiome, what do you think about pre- and pro-biotics? I have taken antibiotics recently and I thought about perhaps supplementing with bacteria products like VSL 3 but many scientists seem to be skeptical of them. I'm just drinking some Kefir daily.

Mark Bell is all over the place with his stance,go carnivore, buy my steak shake, went from a powerlifter to wanna be bodybuilder,  then traded all that for nonstop running.
I like his drive, he has achieved a lot with marketing and selling his wraps, to which I use and find to be what works for me.
As far as these fad diets they are just another flavor of the month gimic.
Nothing beats a blend of the basics, whole foods, animal protien, whole wheat breads potatoes. May e a vitamin pac and for you oiled thong lovers better have some tren in the mix as well as a bag of the real white powder from South America.

diet seems to be totally irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, there are people who just eat french fries three times a day and fuck all else who are in reasonably good health

The gut microbiome without any plant food? A case study on the gut microbiome of a healthy carnivore

In our study, we showcase the compositional and functional characteristics of the gut microbiome in an individual on a carnivorous diet, finding no differences in comparison to a control cohort.

The Sugar Diet may temporarily result in body fat loss and better insulin sensitivity because it's a starvation "diet."

Starvation, by severely restricting or eliminating essential fatty acids and essential amino acids along with other nutrients found in dietary fats and proteins, increases levels of the hormone Fibroblast-growth factor 21 (FGF21):

FGF21 and the late adaptive response to starvation in humans

As periods of famine were an important aspect of the human evolutionary environment, the body’s adaptive ability during periods of starvation was a key survival advantage. Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) has been described as a key liver-secreted hormonal mediator of the adaptive response to starvation, a finding primarily based on data generated from mouse models (1, 2).

It might seem counterintuitive that a starvation-induced hormone would also prevent diet-induced obesity and improve glucose tolerance, but treatment of ob/ob mice with pharmacologic doses of FGF21 lowers glucose and insulin levels during oral glucose tolerance testing. Furthermore, FGF21 transgenic mice demonstrate improved glucose clearance and insulin sensitivity as compared with their WT littermates. FGF21 mediates this improvement in glucose clearance in part through an insulin-independent pathway involving glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1) . FGF21 transgenic mice are also resistant to a high-fat/high-carbohydrate diet; despite eating more food than do their WT littermates, they gain less weight, an effect that appears to be at least partially mediated by induction of thermogenesis (9–14). Why a hormone that is upregulated during starvation would enhance weight loss and induce thermogenesis is unknown...

...studies have found evidence for FGF21 release in response to more narrow nutritional interventions, such as with acute carbohydrate administration (44) or prolonged protein restriction (45).
