That bullshit aside, it's still a very good and safe place to live. Largely because of the middle eastern population.
I haven't been there in years, probably over a decade but it was always a safe middle class neighborhood, maybe even upper middle class.
At one point FoMoCo supplied the Dearborn police with all of their vehicles and funded the public schools there. That was the 80's.
There has been a huge Muslim/Arab population there forat least 3 decades, maybe more.
I remember one of the mayoral candidates back in the mid 80's distributed a pamphlet titled "What I will do about the Arab problem"
I worked with a lot of Arabic and middle eastern people. Never really had any issues. Like all groups there are a lot of accurate stereotypes and a lot of exaggerated stereotypes too. In east Dearborn many of the street signs are in Arabic, the ads in convenience stores are in Arabic. It's eerie AF when you hear the daily calls for prayer. But again, never had any issues.
