where I live its daily happenings of a hammer, bear spray, a machete, an air pistol or a bat.
Violence is a daily occurence in this city, 25 years running worst neighbourhood in Canada
Canada is a bunch of pussies so I would imagine the worst neighborhood and cat would compare to Palm Springs? Or San Francisco?

So some native young guy asked me for change, I said no and he started being mouthy. I said hey if theres a problem lets deal with it. He says "Ivebeen dreaming of this day" and breaks out some magical fast hands boxing skills. I took one shot to the dome, realized I was an old man and in over my head and went on my way

My ego is in check enough to know when Im cooked

I need to improve my walk away skills
Smart move. Be like Arnold in his confrontation with Mentzer. Sit down. Where's Arnold now and where's Mentzer? Arnold figured what's the point in getting into a scuffle with a Cro Magnon? Arnold is now a billionaire as well.

yup, its all hitting home these days
only strategy for older folks nowadays is to carry, cant do it in Canada but anyone older in the States should
My father-in-law carries and pulled out his gun on three younger dudes after a confrontation at his home in Florida. They fucked up a neighbor's lawn and he went to take pictures to report the workers to their employer. The three came after him and wanted to grab his phone which I bought for him. Well the gun game out. They dared him to shoot them and for a second he really wanted to - lol! Someone then called it in and the cops showed up a while later. They questioned him and one of the officers was a woman and she laughed when my father-in-law explained to them he was an older dude who can't get into a scrap with these young kids and had to do whatever was necessary to defend himself since he felt threatened. I mean, he has a pace maker and everything and is in his 80s. So they just left and nothing came from it. He's got quite an arsenal there and makes his own bullets. He's also an excellent shot and has been since a kid. Those guys would have all been dropped if they really went after him.

What is a "nikka knocker'?
In polite terminology a "Negro knocker" (that`s what we called them in my hometown)......not many of them up here but still a lot of assholes........I don`t discriminate........aka a mid sized aluminum baseball bat.

Some good points posted about getting older and fighting. As you get older you just have to walk away, unless you get pushed into a corner so to speak. Then you have to defend yourself as best as you can.

Thought I'd share this story about my late Dad who took on a younger guy maybe 20 years ago in Florida. A story I'll always remember.

My younger brother was roommates with a few other guys into drugs, my brother included. My brother called my Dad asking him to come pick him up because these guys were going to do some drugs by putting needles in their eyes. Yup, pretty messed up but when you are a drug addict... My Dad told me later that he almost didn't answer the phone and go but, it was his son so he went. He decided to take my grandfather's old cane with him instead of his pistol which was a good decision.

After getting there, one of the guy started to give my Dad some crap and threatened him. My Dad said he hit the guy in the stomach with the cane, the guy dropped immediately and started crying. By this time someone had called the cops.

My Dad told me the cop said "You threw the cane at him, right? You didn't hit him with it, right?". Dad agreed that is what happened even though it wasn't really true. As my Dad and brother were leaving, the cop took my Dad aside and told him he was letting this slide this time and not to do that again or he'd be charged. Glad the cop was a good guy and understood the situation.

And...my Dad was 75 years old when this happened. My brother's roommates were in their 20s and early 30s. I'm sure that one roommate who threatened my Dad probably thought Dad was just some old guy. Boy was he wrong! Dad was a tough guy, retired steel worker. He never looked for trouble and would rather just walk away. But, mess with his family and you'd be in a world of hurt.
