It's a close battle. Dorian was extremely grainy and hard. He had amazing calves. Ronnie had unreal arms, thigh mass, glute mass and striations. Both had long legs and a shorter torso - ideal proportions. Ronnie's legs looked a bit odd because the thighs overpowered his calves. Dorian's thighs were a little on the light side - but he had deep cuts in his legs from the side and decent hamstrings. Both had great forearms and lats.

In the end, I’d call it a draw.

The first part is 100% true.

Can't blame Dorian, though.  It's the judges of that era who are at fault -- and every other bodybuilder (e.g. Nasser, JP Fux, Dillett, etc.,) was doing the same shit at the time.  Guts and huge legs and asses just came into fashion, and synthol/SEO was also a new thing then.

Say what you will about that cuck Arnold, but he was 100% against those 90s trends.

As for Ronnie: When I was young I found him insanely impressive.  The older I get the more grotesque he seems, with his weird midsection and bulbous legs.  Almost monstrous.  Negative aesthetics.  Dorian wasn't great, but Dorian was better.

Ronnie is definitely the most muscular human to ever live, but muscularity alone =/= bodybuilding.

Well Doz is winning now. Getting high, staying in shape, prioritizing physical health, banging a hot tranny. Versus Ronnie, being carted around in a wheel chair and getting his ass wiped by his mudshark.

But as bodybuilders its not really even close. At their competitive BEST Dorian in 93 and Ronnie in 03, Ronnie had everything Dorian had but more. Bigger, just as hard, just as dense, just as ripped.  The only thing Dorian had Ronnie on was calves and forearms.

Obsidian provides a pretty good analysis but I have to disagree with a few of his choices. As good as Dorians side chest and front lat spread were, Ronnie in 03 is beats him in those poses. So instead of 4 apiece its more like 6-2.

Then there's the total victories. Ronnie has close to 30 while Dorian has like 10. Then total Olympia victories. Ronnie has 8 with 1 being slightly controversial. Dorian has 6 with at least 2 being very controversial.

Also, Dorian never really truly put the controversy to rest. You can argue that he never really shut up Shawn Ray or Nasser. While I do think Dorian deserved his wins in 95 and 96 , they were extremely close. 94was bad and 97 was atrocious.  Ronnie had 1 close call with Jay in 01 but beat him roundly every year thereafter.

Even the year Jay won in 06 was kind of bullshit. Dorian got every close call and then some and still couldn't come close to 8 sandows. Ronnie tbh looked like anytime it was close "they" were anxious to see him get beat. Letting Gunther beat him at the Show of Strength? And Giving it to Jay in 06? Ronnie never received the kind of favors Dorian did. Ronnie earned each of his Olympias and damn near 3 times as many pro victories as Dorian.

Both their abs were weird but Doz lost complete control of his abs, oblique and waist, while Ronnie always kept a V taper even when his waist grew out of control.

As someone said, others also always blamed Dorian for ruining the sport. When Dorian won Vince Taylor blamed racism and said they always have to mix in some vanilla at the top. Lee Labrada said he saw Dorian at a photoshoot after a show and said he just looked like a side of beef with no cuts. Of course compared to today 92 Dorian looked like a Greek God. Inn 93 absolutely no one complained from what I remember, everyone was just dejected by the insane gains they thought he had made. The mags claimed, and in articles Vince Taylor himself was supposedly saying, that even he went to try HIT, they were so bewildered. Dorian of course said he didn't really put on much muscle for 93, he just dieted away less.

Today Dorian is still seen as a great one and part of the crop of guys in the 90s 'who still looked good and actually got in real shape.' But complaints were made back then...
