If Hanky strictly did powerlifting, strict singles doubles and triples, and training on a powerlifting cycle, he'd hit 405 in no time.

 Shit, most teenagers and guys in their early 20's can do that. In my college gym in Rochester, NY 405 on the squat rack was not uncommon. I went from 185 to 365 in literally six months training with some of the strong guys in the gym. And I was very average. I just stuck to their plan and it worked out.

Mixing the bodybuilding and strength training is really tough. In Franco Columbu's bodybuilding book he said as much- he focused on the three powerlifting moves for strength and did higher rep bodybuilding routines for everything else.

I met a legit baddest the other day, a volunteer on my line at which I work for Franklin Graham's ministry on the Operation: Christmas Child initiative we do every year for a month just before Christmas.

This dude had every bearing of ex-military about him.  He was on gun boats operating all over the world doing ops directly ordered to the POTUS.  Later, he was a sky marshall for 20 some years.  No braggart sort at all.  Friendly as heck, funny and a great volunteer -- the polar opposite of self-described "killers" like Blahahaha and Wankins.  That little sawed-off, 70ish year-old midget on my line would kill both of those retards within six, maybe eight seconds.

completely agree

my best mate is ex sf. a more polite fella you couldnt wish to meet. when he is with civvies he says nothing when with ex sf lads they open up a bit. moons ago a group of lads gave his son a dig in a bar. he went in levelled them all then levelled the doormen - 8 proper incapacitated. tibs and fibs broken not pleasant.

it went to court and the entire thing lasted 32 seconds from him entering the bar to leaving it. he never got time but got a community order largely due to a closed hearing re sentencing. in a boxing ring I would be fine against him. outside with no rules he'd fucking kill me. there are levels to it and the sf lads are lads who have had to stay alive against the odds.

'blunt force trauma' is a favourite phrase of his- stuff they did to get info off foreign operatives- in terms of keeping them alive to then give them pain etc etc etc. its a world apart. he's about 5'11 185lbs thats it.

in that case brian you cant squat.

Obviously the problem is not so much flexibility in your lower body as you demonstrated a good depth albeit your back needs to be more upright, you need to open up your back more. The problem is you are just using too much weight so you cannot get down there without mission abort. Its not good enough to get a green light at your upcoming squat competition just to go down to a depth that feels comfortable. Your 405 on Christmas morning better be to the depth you displayed there otherwise lighten the load and get it right.

Many on here have tried that. They then told others to try it as well. They were the first ones to weaken and break. That was years ago. They have talked about him everyday since then. The ones that hate Brian the most keep him relevant. It’s a brutal cycle yet true. Because of this, I prefer to go against the grain and cheer Brian on

I tried 385lbs one time. I can go a little lower. I can go a little heavier. I do think it was legit powerlifting white flag depth. I agree you are going 2 inches lower that isnt really required in powerlifting though. I also dont really care about powerlifting though. My goal is stability and strength and growth. I do train for growth. I did a single for shits and giggles. I also had a bad angle on the shot. I took a week off snowboarding since then and have a cold and swollen knee now otherwise I would have done the 405 Friday for my birthday. I will still squat the 405 for Xmas. I am sure you will all say it is too high. But you all said it would crush me. So, we can argue about a couple inches on Xmas it will improve. I am 210lbs and lean right now. I will go for the 405 then work towards the 420 double. I also took time off after show. I am not bulking. But its not about the single the work I am putting in at lighter weights and reps is what is changing my legs. I had a 2nd rep in me at 385, I almost went for 2, I def could have gone lower. I did a 10 rep set at 225 then a 5 rep set at 315 and a single at 345 and 365 prior to the 385. Lower weights are being used I dont just start at my max. I used the belt for the 385 only as I was getting a lower back pump. I like higher rep lower weight sets just doing a single for fun

If you put his legitimate max squat at 315, he should be working through sets of 250-280 to bulid up.

he would do better to try to do 10 proper form all the way down with 135

and if your lower back is getting pumped you are leaning forward miles too much. oh and your lower backas well as your legs and hips are weak as shit.

so for clarity brian will fail in a legit depth squat on crimbo day.

I did that a few years ago.

My form stunk, so I said fuck it and went back to 135, and built it up.  Since I'm not competing in powerlifting or the Mr. Olympia, who cares?
