After 44 years, MTV is dying tonight
« on: Today at 07:45:15 AM »
If you're of a Getbigger of certain age and you feel like your youth is dying in front of you — you're probably right.

Forty four years after it first launched, MTV as we know it is dead. By the end of this year (tonight), MTV’s remaining 24-hour music channels will shut down globally, closing the book on one of the most influential chapters in pop culture history.

From 2026 onwards AI will take care of your entertainment in general

First twelve minutes of MTV with advertisement for Superman two at 10:50.  So much nostalgia.

It was a smash when it first arrived.  The format changed (for the worse) but that was just keeping up with the times changing really.

We all have a great memory that is MTV inspired I am sure.

Good riddance.
It was neat in the Metal years but there was too much bull shit from the 90ies onward.

Never watched mtv. Never understood the hype.

It was impressive and new in the 1980s. In Europe cable TV was a radical step, as in many countries commercial television was illegal / banned. So when laws were changed, loads of new Channels were suddenly available. Especially for the 12 to 20 year old it was very appealing. As MTV was so different and fresh compared to old traditional TV

But times and technology have changed immensely, now MTV is old and something from a bygone era.

Saw a video where she told that she once was crowd surfing, and several guys in the audience put their fingers inside her while she was carried over the crowd    ;D

Have to look at the context of the time it debuted.

There was nothing like it - I could watch it for hours.
