Sad, but MTV stopped being MY MTV of old ages ago
Not much Music TeleVision anymore, just woke crap.
80s and 90s, THAT was TRUE MTV! Headbangers Ball ROCKED!
THE END OF AN ERA!
Headbangers' Ball was big, as was Yo! MTV Raps!
I remember when MTV was literally channel M on the black and silver cable box, when my mom could afford cable. Then there were the "Sneak Preview" videos that you could only see on MTV for a month. Once those appeared on NBC's Friday Night Videos and other spots, you knew MTV lost the exclusivity.
And lest we forget, the "Rock and Wrestling Connection". The WWF, via its connection with Cyndi Lauper (who had Capt. Lou Albano play her father in "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" video) used MTV to promote its matches.
The "Brawl for it All", women's world title match between the Fabulous Moolah (with Albano in her corner) and Wendi Richter (with Lauper in her corner), aired on MTV and it was a rating BOOM!! This set up the "War to Settle the Score" on MTV, which ultimately led to the first WrestleMania.
Hulk Hogan used to be guest VJ on a regular basis, especially when promoting WWF events.
VH1 was the video channel for your parents. Then came BET for those who wanted more R&B stuff.
The beginning of the end for MTV came with the emergence of the Video Jukebox (later known as just "The Box"), where you called in and paid to look at any video you wished to see at any time. That begat YouTube and the rest is history.
