she should play the race card

That won't work. Salt-N-Pepa got inducted last year. And they're not even mixed like Mariah. ;D

She’s not rock and roll and shouldn’t be in it just like all the other rap artists. They should have individual Hall’s for each genre of music.

Rapper and R&B singers going into the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame is like getting Thanksgiving turkeys at Honey Baked Ham.

Even if you don't eat swine, there's something there that you'll like to eat. ;D

Narada Michael Walden produced the two biggest hits on her freshman album "Mariah Carey" in 1990.  He also worked with Whiney and George Michael.

The "Mariah Carey" album had four number one hits which is very rare particularly for a new artist.

Mariah didn't tour at all after the first album, but went right back into the studio.

To get ahead she had to let him "behind" her.

This statement is the reason for this thread.  I and many other do not understand why this woman does not get the credit she deserves.  Yes, he's a great producer, but he was blown away by her talent from the very start.  Did she have the best team in the business behind her, yes, but she still had to do the work.  The demo tape was done in a wood shop.  There was literally no production value behind it and it sounded good to the ear of a top producer.  He just took it to a higher level.

Her first major singing job was as backup singer to Brenda K Starr who had a hit "I Still Believe".

She's in the back left.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Brenda K several times when she was making the transition from freestyle to Salsa (she later had some hits in Latin charts as salsa singer)

The first two times she will proudly mention Mariah was her backup singer (this while Mariah was on top of the world) one felt like asking what happened then' ...

Third time around she told me off air not to mention that Mariah once was her backup singer.

No plastic surgeries no Botox, Brenda was an absolute milf .

Oh, I misunderstood what you meant by "behind her".  To be fair, Tommy was "behind her" in all meanings of the words.

In my opinion, Mariah would not have reached the heights she did without Tommy.  Her best work was with Tommy and Sony.

Here's a brief interview Tommy did we he talks about his relationship with Mariah.  Apparently, the first album took over a year and a half, almost two years.   He also talks about how the industry has changed and gives some great insights.  Starts at 8:50 asking about Mariah.

Sometimes those award bullies decide to mess with someone. For example Bjork with 16 grammy nominations and zero wins.

Mariah met Ben Margulies when she was only 16 years old.  She would drive into the city after school her junior year and record in the small studio he had until late at night.  Sometimes not getting home until 3:00 am in the morning.  They were producing the demo tape that would eventually get her signed with Sony music.

Her first Album titled Mariah Carey had four number one singles on it:
Vision of Love
Love Takes Time
Someday
I Don't Wanna Cry

Her first public appearance was on The Arsenio Hall Show where she sang Vision of Love in 1990.

Vision of Love performed on Good Morning America in 1990.  Just a Piano and two backup singers.

One of her best live performances ever, flawless. - Without You at the Tokyo Dome in 1996.

I believe she was the best singer in the world at this point.

Mariah's second album was title Emotions.

She famously did not tour at all for her first two albums and there were rumors she was a studio creation and couldn't actually sing.

The reality is the songs on the first two albums are so challenging they don't allow for more than a couple of songs to be sung at a time meaning a full concert was not possible.  To squash the rumors she did an MTV Unplugged.

Emotions on MTV Unplugged 1992.  She is only 22 years old here and will continue to improve.

What is this thread?

Where are these “facts” coming from?

Mariah had released a platinum record, signed a 4 year $100 contract and didn’t realize that there were different quality of record labels….. even though she used to perform with hip hop artists as a young teen?

Is this made up by AI?

I'm not sure what you're talking about.  Her original contract with Columbia was for five albums for which she got $3 million.

1990: Mariah Carey — 15,000,000 copies
1991: Emotions — 8,000,000 copies
1993: Music Box — 30,000,000 copies
1994: Merry Christmas — 15,000,000 copies
1995: Daydream — 25,000,000 copies

The first five albums sold 93 million copies.

The Virgin Record deal was five albums for $100 million dollars.

All record labels are not created the same.  What's hard to understand about that?  Def Jams was started in Rick Rubens dorm room.  Columbia Records invented the vinyl LP record which still used today.
