....and to sit sideways on the pec flye machine in order to do a time consuming one arm rear delt movement

Charles is good trainer, but I’m so sick of seeing machines being monopolized by wannabes, sitting the wrong way, doing awkward one arm movements,

(You never saw Ronnie, Dorian, Lee Haney, or Shawn Ray doing this stuff)

I've said it before on here how I think his "expertise" is a total scam or at least close. Even if his new angles did hit the muscles better genetics mostly determines how you will look. But I guess you have to have some gimmick to distinguish yourself from the rest. I've noticed blacks in particular like to do weird self-invented exercises. They are also very fond of cables for some reason.

That Mike Van Wyck I think is also ridiculous. I could never follow what he was trying to say. Very aggressive and arrogant style too. No advanced bb is going to change how he looks by being coached by him on exercises. But he is absolutely massive, so...

Charles Glass had Gunter Schlierkamp doing that stuff too.

I remember Tom Prince saying Charles was the best, "just show up at Gold's Venice and give him $100, it's worth every penny."

😂  Maybe in pre-contest mode. Charles would load up olympic plates on the the machines for you, or re-rack all of your dumbbells for you.

For $100 he will for sure tell you how to build a peak on your biceps or how to isolate the lower lats. Come to Getbig instead and you'll get expert advice for free. Wasn't there some guy on here who told Jay Cutler how to build upper pecs a few decades ago? Jay never returned :D

In the Gulf states like at Oxygen gym they have those slave laborers load up the machines for the pros. I might be mistaken but I seem to remember Charles had some assistant doing the loading, at least at some time. I'd charge at least double if I had to load and unload the leg press :D

(person sits on leg extension)
Mike..."Ok chin down head up, back straight, lean forward, push with the glutes, lean back now , look over your shoulder , tip your head back , straighten your knees , curl your quads"

All the while touching and fucking mauling about with his client

hes a fucking stupid bastard

Haha exactly. Everyone in his videos says wow what a difference, you really know your shit. When they actually had no idea what he was talking about. It's like if you don't understand it must be profound.

There was a workout session where Dennis James was being trained by a guy who worked for Charles Glass. That trainer said that he didn’t have to do anything special for Dennis because Dennis was living in Thailand at the time. The trainer just said that he’d be selecting chest machines (in Los Angeles) that Dennis didn’t have access to in Thailand.

But one exercise looked very effective. Partial incline presses on the smith machine with the stoppers set several inches above the chest. Apparently Dennis had a minor pec strain earlier in the contest prep, and he didn’t want to risk stretching the pec excessively. Dennis still went to 4 plates per side. The reps were very clean. But it was definitely a partial press.

Charles is a good trainer, and a knowledgable guy who will evaluate your physique on its potential, he best identifies weak points and works almost exclusively trying to engage body parts from angles where they can neutralise other supporting muscles. Many people struggle to engage their backs,  etc, he can sometimes assist with adjustments to minimise delt or arms compensating movement.
He will also honestly tell you what you need to do on whats required and whether it's worth you pursuing it. Appreciate its not rocket science, but he cops a bit of negative press. He's a very humble guy, certainly worth seeking out if you have pro ambitions . Appreciate there are many others who are probably even more knowledgable these days. But he pioneered it back in the 90s.

  • I’m going there but I like it here wherever it is
Nowadays it seems like people have sucked all the fun out of lifting. Everything has to be optimal and stable. If it's not stable, it's regarded as a waste of time. They even say barbell rows are a bad exercise because they're unstable. ::)

The worst offender is Jeff "The Dwarf" Nippard and his sideways reverse pec deck, cable hip hinge on seated cable row,  and single arm lat pull laying face down on the floor.

I also can't stand cable lateral raises using a wrist cuff or using straps for dumbbell laterals!

I think C. Glass is a great trainer and his clients all train with good form in the videos I've seen. The variations are interesting, creative,  and may definitely help different issues for people. The trouble, I feel, are the people who only focus on zany different variations, instead of establishing a foundation with the basics. Or preferring a variation if it makes the exercise easier. It's also ridiculous if a gym is small and busy, and someone is taking up a ton of space doing an elaborate 10 banded upside down hobo umbrella press.

Thread's gone. It was started by a guy named Alexxx or something close, who was tall and Eastern Euro looking. It was a fun thread, and Jay heard about it and took it in stride, but it vanished. This was 2006-2008 or so.

Edit, Alexxx, Trainer of Champions -
