Zane looked great there. he was small compared to some dudes but for the TIME wasent "tiny"
contest ready at 5'9 190 Isnt that far cry away from a 230 lb Arnold, 200 lb Serge (at 6 feet) 270 lb Lou at 6'5. Waller was what 220 at 6 feet.
It is like Dex compared to Coleman today.

No legs is asinine; could have had more cuts but the quads and hams were huge, with decent calves. That's a poor assessment. Wasn't sharp in '77, but never was allowed to win after that either. Nor were Padilla, Szkalak, Fox or Mentzer. More to it than what the mags tell you to think, my little Iron Ager..

Robbies LEGS were never on par with his upper body and his conditioning was lacking , when you stand next to Frank Zane you better be as shredded or more so !! this is a pic from the 79 Olympia , if you can't see he is off and not anywhere near as sharp as Frank , it shows your eye sight is worse than I originally thought .

Hmmm , during the Zane era, those champs had actual major network coverage of the shows. Now that we have a million TV networks due to cable and digital , bodybuilding has no TV coverage. Yeah, he really was bad for the sport

Frank took the sport into a new direction. Quality over quantity! This is the lesson he once taught Arnold and Arnold never forgot and came back in 1980 to teach a young Lou Ferrigno that very same lesson. I also feel that Robby had very good leg development but was not as well conditioned as Frank.

Frank took the sport into a new direction. Quality over quantity! Actually Weider took the "sport" in another direction, Zane was along for the vehicle at the time much as Schwarzenegger was 10 years earlier over Oliva. The parallels are obvious, given Weider's desire to increase sales and prominence. Very much a no-brainer: anoint marketable, articulate caucasians Schwarzenegger & Zane for a string of victories and concurrent increases in interest and sales, or allow questionable semi-english literate non-whites to win, who wouldn't move his magazines & supplements. Very very simple from a business perspective, and Weider was always about the bottom line. When Zane won, health & fitness was on the upswing in the United States. Greats like Robinson, Fox, Szkalak, Mentzer, & Padilla weren't given fair opportunities and for the most part all drew the same conclusions and left.

Ive never been a big Zane fan, but I thought he looked pretty good there. Seems like he had more size that year than in 1980.

Robbies LEGS were never on par with his upper body and his conditioning was lacking , when you stand next to Frank Zane you better be as shredded or more so !! More nerdy generalizations, trying to sound smarter than he is. What I remember standing backstage when he won the Universe was that even amidst all the other top BBs he stood out of the crowd as great. Lower body was good, not great, only because the calves were decent, not great. Thighs both quads and hams were huge, with very good shape and solid cuts. Overall, upper and lower body he was great. Nowhere near the mediocrity seen with Yates, for example.

Too bad the judges had to go and screw up the entire industry by changing their standards of what a quality physique is supposed to look like!!
