I read in Flex that he spent most of last year doing seminars in South Africa. Apparently bodybuilding is becoming ever more popular there and pros are in high demand. Maybe he's too rich to compete these days

he's probably taking some time off.  got his pro card at 245 and then was competing at 280.   :-X

those deadlifts make absolutely no sense.  what is the point of them?

Art was incredible early in his career beating Ruhl in his first contest the Toronto Pro, but i hate to say it ,he has gone downhill probaly due to much to HGH IGF Slin. His stomach was huge last time i saw him compete.
But at 280 in contest shape the guy is still a monster.

When I spoke to Art at the Arnold Classic, I asked him when his next competition will be. He said at the moment, he is not planning one because he is busy concentrating on making money via his new company and it takes a lot of time and effort to build it up. It is more lucrative for him to do that at the moment than to send three months training and dieting for a show. He is just focusing on other ventures now.

Now that Art wasnt training. He still looked huge and he said he trains a lot in the gym, but not just specifically for a contest.

Art is one of the nicest pro's out there.  Very eager to share info and chat it up.  I'ev also noticed that he looks a lot like lance armstrong... if lance were juiced to the gills.

That is the complete opposite of the Art Atwood I see just about every day. I thought he seemed like a cool dude also when I saw him on the BFTO 2003, but when I approached him after his workouts just to say "what's up," he didn't igknowledge me at all, just looked up and walked away. Well, I gave it the benefit of doubt, maybe he was having a bad day, but many of the members also said that he's an asshole. I guess some people have good experiences and some don't and I, along with many members felt like he's an asshole who fits the stereotypical bodybuilder attitude. We really need more guys like Lee Priest, Richard Jones, Phil Heath, Jay, etc.... It would definitely help the bodybuilding image to some certain degree.

I think he has always had a huge waist...and his chest looks very funny to me...but he is without a doubt a monster.

Do you have inside information on Lance? Just curious, since I am good friends with Steve Bauer, his ex team mate (and silver medallist at the 84 LA Olympics in the road race). I asked Steve point blank about drug use on Motorola, where they were team mates. Steve said he never saw any evidence of it, and has know Lance since he was a teenager. Of course, if you are the best in any sport these days, you must be on drugs, correct? You couldn't be working hard and be gifted.

Lance has been studied by Ed Coyle of the Human Performance Lab in Austin Texas for the better part of 7 years. His paper on Lance can be seen at :http://www.edb.utexas.edu/coyle/content/armstrong%20article%20JAP.pdf Coyle has done a tremendous amount of blood testing on Lance. Of course, Lance was probably on all sorts of dope but Coyle wouldn't publish that, right?

The speculation that Lance was on drugs was advanced by David Walsh, an Irish journalist. He was interviewed by a cycling periodical, Velonews, regarding those accusations: http://www.velonews.com/news/fea/6295.0.html Walsh won't publically declare if he thinks Lance was on performance enhancing drugs. Funny, but he would write a book insinuating it. Interestingly Walsh wrote a fawning book about Sean Kelly, the great Irish racer. Sean did test positive for amphetamines several times in his career, including attempting to switch urine samples at a drug control during one race. Walsh has nothing but praise for Sean though.

And what about the French newspaper L'Equipe? According to them, Lance's frozen urine samples form 1999 tested positive for EPO. But, of course, it turns out that the French Lab couldn't shown any chain of custody or proof they weren't tampered with after all those years. But it must be Lance's samples, and he was on dope , right? L'Equipe never wrote any disparaging stories about Richard Virenque, the retired French mountain climber ace who raced nearly the same years as Lance. Richard admitted in court that he used EPO, as well as heroin and cocaine (the pot belge mixture). Richard is OK though cause the French woman adore him, and that sells lots of papers. An American who absolutely crushes the record of wins in your French national treasure, the Tour de France, a record that probably will never be broken, well, he really was on dope and doesn't count. That sells lots of papers too.

Enough of this drug talk. Lets get back to professional bodybuilding. ;D

And you know that for a fact penis breath?? Nobody hated Lance more than the French and he was piss tested 1000's of times here and abroad. Not ONCE was he tested positive. Google around and see what type of drugs he was tested for. There's no way he couldv'e gotten away with it for so long.

Don't go shooting of your cum filled mouth just because in a moment of "brightness" you figured this guy to be on dope.

I wouldn't say he's an asshole.  He's not.  He's just .... :-\ different.  He can come across cranky, but he's really not a bad guy.

I dont know ryan.  I do know art.  Doesnt sound like the art atwood i know. Maybe Ryan was the asshole or had unrealistic expectations that werent met.  Art is a pretty down to earth guy and has more patience than most people in his situation would.

Maybe you could try the 1/4 deads before you condemn them or look at his lower back and hamstrings to see if he is getting any results.

Yeah, what an asshole.  What kind of guy doesn't stop what he's doing, and begin a long drawn out conversation with every lacky at the gym who say's "what's up."

I personally make it a point to begin a conversation lasting no less than 3 minutes every time someone says "what's up."

Art's back is one of the best in bodybuilding, so I'm guessing those rack deads are doing something.

As "Mace" once said, "as for me, it's nothing personal.  I do what works for me, you do what works for you."

I used to train at his gym here in WI.  I also used to drop by his store from time to time.  At the gym he was always pretty quite, you got a nod or a "hey, how you doing?"  I can totally understand that because after all your there to train not chat it up with everyone and their uncle, especially being a pro.  When I would stop by his store he was always friendly and I would hang out and talk to him for hours.  He even gave me a photocopied packet on carbing up and depleting for a show I was planning on doing.  Now some might say he was being friendly because I was a customer at his store but I never really bought all that much because I work at my own supp/health food store and he knew that.  It too bad he moved it was cool to hang out with him.

Art Atwood is a great guy. he helped one of my friends immensely at the 2001 nationals. He placed 7th in that contest and has said that Atwood was the nicest pro he has ever met. he also said he gave him a ton of advice that was helpful in his showing.

Art looked awsome when he won the Toronto pro. I hope he goes back to that look.
