I doubt he could do a full squat with 750. That would put his deadlift at well over 800 lb. My guess is that he stopped a few inches above parallel. Still a damn good lift.

15 plates per side leg press
AFTER that 405x12 squat
85lb DB lunges for god knows how far had to be 3 lengths of the gym back n forth

Hes a madman.  He looks like hes failing on rep 3 and gets 15 i swear it.  He turns red, looks insane, and PUSHES and PUSHES.

I also know people who will swear theyv personally seen him do 110lb front DB raises.  Rich is nuts... now try workin for him every day lol wouldnt wanna work for anyone else its always interesting and funny, good thing hes got a good sense of humor cuz im nuts also

I will vouch for all those claims. I tried with Rich 2 years. They were the most grueling workouts ever.

What exactly did you try?

haney does reps in the flat bench with 495 in his training video ::)

Haney does 6 reps with 405 in the flatbench in his video the reps are done in a slow strict fashion with the bar touching his chest each rep , then he high-fives Rope-man .

I was re-reading the July 1991 issue of Flex magazine when I came across an article about Ripped Richie's leg program.

At the beginning of the article, Gaspari wrote:

"In my early years of squatting, I went as high as 750 pounds and was doing 405 for 35 reps and 465 for 20"

I know he was like 5 feet tall, a definete advantage for squatting, but I'm not entirely convinced these figures are 100% accurate.

Any thoughts?

Yes---he is telling the truth.  He was quite strong.

I'm sitting here reading this and cracking up...You are sooo right. When we trained together  he would look like he was done after 4 reps and I would say to myself and to him that I got him beat and he would pull 10 reps out of nowhere. He had heart.

Good ole Milltown Gold's..I heard it's called something else but Ron still owns it. Rich and I had some great workouts in that gym.
Then,Jimmy..Is it true that Rich was that strong?

Ok, great, it is one thing to be able to push yourself when training and another to squat a raw 750 lbs.  I SERIOUSLY doubt Richie ever did it.

Rich was legendary for how hard and heavy he trained. If you ask people that were around in the 1980's who the top two hardest-training bodybuilders of the era were, the two names that come up again and again are Rich Gaspari and Tom Platz.

I normally dont believe many of the strength claims by bodybuilders, but in this case ,I believe it.I know quite a few guys that trained with him or around him back in the day,and everyone says he was a beast in the gym.In fact, everyone I have spoken to said he was the only guy they ever saw that actually got stronger as the workout continued.
