I would super-set. 3-4 excersises, 3-4 sets each. (incline barbell press into cable rows, flat dumb press into front-lat pulldowns)

chest-back supersetting is extremely draining but is effective imo.
when i was out of town last week i did  50 pullups in 4 sets, with sets of 12 rep dips between every one, and i was sore as fuck the next day from just that.

I agree thats effective. Definatly taxing on the body as well. I like doing it every once in awhile, say mabye every 4 months or so.

I do back/chest same workout. Lose energy after chest, but that's only natural. Good way to avoid that is split sessions in a day.

I do back and chest on the same day and i do it twice a week.  I use about 4 excercises for for back and another 4 for chest.  I alternate between back and chest

I love alternating chest and back exercises. Other times, I will follow with back exercises after I'm done with my chest exercise to prioritise chest. You can try it both ways and see what works best for YOU.

Actually SS'ing back & chest (usually back first) would be a prefered way of working out for a lot of people. Recovery time is speeded up for either muscle group. It need not be draining once you get use to this type of training. The purpose is not to use super heavy weight but more in the moderate BB'ing range of 10 reps or so. Three or four sets of SS's should be enough for a muscle group and most thinking people. If doing GVT (10X10's) than the training cycle is usually from 6-8 weeks max.

This is getting to be a cliche but Arnorld & Columbo trained this way quite often. Usually had a third training partner. Each would do a set and the next guy would jump in to do his, etc, etc.. Also can work well with the military press (or PBN) and upright rows, squarts & hams, abs & lower back, etc. Good Luck.

Have to disagree, I actually do chest and back together, but I do chest first 4 exercises, 3 sets for 2 of them and 4 sets for the other 2, usually I do the 4 sets for the push movements and 3 sets for the more isolated exercises. I do the exact same thing for back as far as the split 2 exercises x 4sets for the pull movements and 2 exercises x 3 sets for the more isolated. I do this the one week and the next week I do back first, chest second. I'm going for a little more high intensity than in the winter when I do a 5 day split. Right now I only have 3 days to get in the gym and get out. IMO this is not for the beginner, the split is tough...to keep your motivation for that second part is tough.

Arnold, Franco & Sergio come to mind as working (SS'ing mostly) back & chest together. Well documented. I think they were mildly successfull in BB'ing. Enought said?

Good Luck.

AAS has become kind of a miscellaneous receptical of unexplainables. Not about AAS; comes down to preference whether supersetting antagonist muscles works. Some love it, doesn't appeal to others.

Woo and Jr, have either of you actually tried it? As I do agree the best split is 5 days, but sometimes life does not allow us to be flexible with our schedules, so we make do with what we can. Chest and back again is not for the weak at heart, but I do like the fact I go heavy 1 week with 1 bodypart and light the next week for whatever bodypart I did heavy the week before. My back has got more separation and has never looked better. Actually try it before you shoot it down, you might be surprised. And if you have tried it and don't like it at all, thats your choice, it was just my 2 cents on the question.

hahahahaha, not true bro. Not true. Not even today. Maybe most IFBB pro's follow split routines strictly, but they'll make superior gains using any kind of training routine. So its not legitimate to use them as an example for what works best in terms of training. Layne Norton and Derek Charlebois are just 2 examples of successful bodybuilders who swear by hgih frequency training (hitting each muscle 2-3 times a week, meaning you pretty much HAVE to group chest and back together)
