I am the exact same way Onlyme... I perform ALL exercises thumbless, it's just natural to do since I was taught that way.

The reason why it fell was simply because it was too much weight.

That guy looked like 135 would be too much for him.  That was probably his first time benching and he had no idea.

If you read the comments, the guy in the video actually posts. Says that it just bruised his chest and that he has done 340 before. Don't know how much truth that holds though....

Bullshit.

Poor attempt at saving some face. No fucking way he's done 340 lbs.

Fucking idiot. Check your ego at the door.

Had a guy do something similar at my gym a couple weeks ago. But while squatting......his legs just buckled...I just laughed. Idiot was struggling with 205 for partials, so what does this smart person do? He adds more weight to it....... ::)
HAHA, RON.....

LOL that doesn't make for a very motivational training environment.

I've read all sorts of stuff on the thumb grip enhancing your grip strength, and so on and I was using it for years...it also ensures using a correct form where your wrists aren't bent backwards, potentially damaging.  But when you're pushing a huge amount of weight it's not so much your wrists you gotta worry about.  I find the thumbless grip way more comfortable...

Yep thumb or no thumb means nothing in this case. That was simply too much weight for that guy.  Jsut like when Ryclak(?) tried to bench 1005 or whatever and he dumped it.  He had a thumb grip.  Just no way will your thumbs hold that much weight.  If the weight is to heavy and it starts to roll I don't care how many thumbs you have on it, you won't be able to stop from dropping it.

Here's some advice:
1. Use your thumbs to grip the bar.  This will keep the bar from rolling on to your chest.
2. Be able to bench 225lbs, before attempting 295lbs.
3. Don't let go of the bar.
4. Stop going to the gym, you may permanently hurt yourself or someone around you.
5. Oh, I'm natural by the way.
hahahaha, good stuff.
