With a beer. "Just 1", Tom thought to himself as he kicked back with his buddies to watch the game. "I refuse to get drunk tonight. If I come home wasted again she's gonna flip on me". By the second quarter Tom was 3 deep into a 6 pack and already feeling no pain. At 1 AM he stumbled through the front door of the condo. And Maria was waiting. "Hey babe, I ahh um" "Shut the fuck up Tommy" Maria barked back. "Tomorrow I'm moving out, I've had enough of your bullshit." And with that she turned and walked to the bedroom leaving Tom to fend for himself on the couch. They had been living together for 2 years and now after numerous attempts to straighten himself out, he had finally pulled the straw that broke the camel's back. Life would never be the same for him, though what was coming his way over the coming weeks, he could have never even dreamed of...

...he coud never have dreamed of his coming of age...his quickening. He had once read someplace that men never grew up, " they only came of age". It seems he was being given the chance to prove 'them' wrong. " And that ws looking at it as the glass half full", he thought , " a love affair that killed a love affair" ,his mind added and he smiled genuinely. At 30 he had almost given up on trying to stop his mind from ad libbing whthout his permission. Besides, it ws amusing. Ten yrs ago he had had his first revelation in his first drink , " i know what i wanna be when i grow up...an alcoholic!", he had thought and grinned. Well at least it had a certain romantic trajedy to it and that gave him a lisence....

Unfortunatley that liscence was to gradually destroy himself, as Maria was now the third relationship in a row that he had botched due to drinking and "coming of age" revelations. Before he knew it his smile faded and he drifted off into never never land, half on the couch half off, with drool running from his mouth gradually soaking his pillow....

At first the sensation of a tongue on his mouth was excitment, maria had cooled down and came back, but the rotten breath and wet nose jarred him back to reality and to Buddy his loyal golden retriever licking his face with tail waggen. Light streamed into his dingy room and it was all he could do to pull on his tattered gym shorts and grab Buddies leash as he headed for the door, which seemed to be swaying, or was that him. He felt the sunshin more then saw it as his eyes were squinted closed and Buddy was already looking fo a place to pee, which seemed like a really good idea and before Tom even cleared the porch he took out his junk and started to water the flowers with a yellow stream of last nights leftovers. As the last of the dew was shaken off the daisy and he had opened his eyes fully Tom caught sight of the noisy neighbor Ms Jenkins with mouth agap at his little yellow freedom time, shake her finger at him before stalking back inside her house. "f**k you very much" he called after her..it was going to be one of those days.

In a way Tom was grateful that she was gone as his anger raged, escalating almost to what he secretly referred to as the "Thelma Level."

Thelma was the brown-eyed beauty that Tom loved before Maria, and Thelma had known how to push his buttons. He never told anyone what had happened that night, partly because he was so drunk, and partly because he was afraid of what he might have done during his black-out. The last thing he remembered was pulling out handfuls of her gorgeous brunette locks in an incontrollable fury while holding her down on the kitchen floor. He remembered being stunned the next day when the papers said Thelma's body had been found mutilated and scantily clad in a filthy alley downtown.

Tom, felt a little better once the brown liquid that passed for coffee in this filthy dirty gas station washed down his booze encrused gullet.Ok now have think, I need to get something together for Brians party tonight.The thought hit him like a taser to the taint. "Oh well" he thought to himself as he cranked the engine and slapped his car into drive, "bad things come in threes, Maria leaves me high and dry, coffee on my leg, one more to go and I hit the trifecta". He flipped the radio on and grabbed his cell. Barely paying attention to the road as he sped up, busy scrolling through his phonebook looking for Susan's name. He found it and hit dial. Tapping the wheel, looking down at the stereo, 2 rings, a voice "hello" and *crash*

Tom shook himself from the airbag that had deployed in his face. "Whah, how, uhhh" He struggled out of the car and saw the mashed front end and leaking radiator fluid. A bit shaken up but no worse for wear he suddenly realized that he had been in an accident. To his left he saw the back end of an Escalade. Crimped but not the accordian his Honda had become. "Hey asshole" a female voice brought him back to reality. "Look what you did to my car!" Tom shrugged. "And that's 3", he said looking over at the leggy beauty who had emerged from the Caddy. "Guess what? The day only get's better from here." He walked towards her and with a wink and a smile extended his hand and with renewed confidence leaned into her and breathed. "I'm Tom"...

Hand extended and silly smile plastered on his face Tom did not even see the leggy beauty bring her knee up for a classic krav maga knee strike to the groin. The pain that shot thru him and cause him to black out was almost a pleasure compared to the blinding flash as the concrete met with his skull and left him in a heap on the street.

Tom was coming to surrounded by police and and very gay EMT tending to his wounds, WOW this is really getting to be a write home to mom slap your dog kind of day tom groaned. It was at this point tom was handed the ticket for reckless driving from john law and watched as his car was towed away by some city worker missing teeth. Ok well at least I have a splitting head ache to go with my throbing balls and big lump on my skull, freaking great karma is sure a royal goat fuck he thought but just then the blond who beat him like a stepchild came over and extended her hand and said something about being sorry about overreacting and beating him up like a bitch, well now were getting somewhere he thought...
