Preparing meals for the day
« on: August 31, 2006, 03:30:21 PM »
How do you all prepare your meals each day when you have to be out of home for a while? I just started a new job, getting decent money, and I want to prepare good meals now and take them with me on the job so I don't starve.

I'm looking to bulk, and take about 40g protein/60g carbs in each meal. I'm basing the idea on Ronnie taking a tupperware container of grilled chicken and fried potato with him and eating it in the cop car. That sort of thing. Thanks for any help.

A good way to avoid cooking every day is to pick a couple days a week and cook in bulk. Since it's summer, I like to grill up 5 or 6 chicken breasts on Sunday and then again on Wednesday and store them in the refrigerator. I also will cook up 6 or 7 cups of rice at the same time and store that also. Just grab a couple of chicken breasts and a couple cups of rice in the morning and place them in plastic containers and you're good to go. Drinking a couple shakes during the day is also a good way to get in all your meals.

Thanks, corinth. All I need to do now is learn to cook chicken breast and potato.

MidnightRambo, what do you do with the brewers yeast, if you don't mind? I'm interested in people's eating habits to get big.

I cook most every thing that I eat through out the wk on Sunday after noon. I carry a big cooler in the back of my car and some times I have to eat it cold...that part sucks but you get used to it. No I don't pre-cook my eggs or oatmeal, neither of those really takes any time to cook, but if I am short on time I will just drink a glass of egg whites mixed with oates...I usually put a little pack of splenda in with it to help it go down easier.

I just mix it with some water and slug it down, cal: 120, fat 0, protein 16g, carbs 13g, fiber 6g, excellent source of trace minerals and it's a complete protein

I do this too...

Sunday - grill or oven bake Chicken or lean beef
Add cooked asparagus or black beans
Weigh 4 oz of turkey breast into zip locks
Split up bag of baby carrots in to zip locks
Weigh any extra stuff (Chex mix, pretzels, etc) in offseason

Throw it all in the fridge and am ready to go.

Bonus - I cook double the amount of meat I need for my lunches.  So that way I meat already cooked for my afterworkout meal that just needs to be warmed up.  No need to cook, just warm it up...

I'm currently following Arnold's program, or at least beginning. I bought some chicken breasts and cooked them up, then placed them into containers. Took one with me to work, along with some bread and just heated it up. Worked really well. Can I keep the cooked breasts in the fridge over 7 days or will it go off?

How do you all cook your breasts? I just put the whole piece in the pan and found it cooked well, but the sides didn't get very cooked. I'm very new to cooking as you can tell.

seven days is definately stretching it.  I usually only eat chicken for three days after cooking it, but this means you will have to cook twice per week.   Not sure what you mean by the sides didn't cook well, but make sure they don't touch each other when you cook them if you want them cooked more.

Here is my experience on meat shelf life:

After it is cooked, it will last for 5 days ok as long as you put it in the fridge fairly soon after cooking.  Same goes with beef.

I have cooked on Sunday for the work week for years and have NEVER gotten sick or had issues.
