Getting weaker for no apparent reason
« on: September 09, 2006, 05:25:29 PM »
I was sure happy when I dumbell shoulder pressed 75 for 9 reps 3 weeks ago. Now, 3 weeks later, assuming I'd have a nice high rep shoulder workout, enjoying new increases in strength I'd try the 75s once again. Instead I get 4 reps unassisted. WHAT......THE......FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only thing I can guess is that I just had a hard soccer game the night before but was well rested and nourished. WHAT THE FUCKKKK!!!!!!!!

that's the way the cookie crumbles when you're natural, gains don't come every workout otherwise you'd have guys benching 3500 pounds that have been training 25 years, look at it this way i've been training 15 years and i can press the 110's for a few reps, live and learn young man.

I've exeperienced this too...some weeks you are just stronger and get more reps for no apparent reason.

Just like in economics,
BB also tend to suffer from the so-called pork-cycle.

You have a couple of periods in a year you feel good, and train max and have the feeling that you had given more,
some periods you feel like dying lifting with your 'normal' weight. You have to keep training in these periods and cherish them. Cause as the saying goes,
if it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger :P

Maybe the taxing your muscles went through from your previous 'stellar' week has left the shoulders unable to recover fully ?

If I understand Figgs, he didn't do DB presses for 3 weeks? If so, than most anyone will not hold the same (or better) strength level inbetween that time period.  You must train the muscle/nerves motor units to keep the lift tuned for their higest responce and strength. I believe that anything over a 2 and a half to 3 week period the body loses that edge. Even if Figgs did military presses or any other shoulder exercise, in most cases, if the actually lift was not done he will lose strength in that lift. Usually though, a person can come back even stronger than he was before taking that 3 week break on any lift. So maybe in a couple of more DB press workouts Figgs will be using 80lbs for 10 reps. Seen this happen a lot to other guy's on other lifts.

Of course we all have off days when the weight seems twice as heavy and we just can't seem to get kick started no matter what we do. But I don't think this was the cause in Figgs case. If anyone has a day like this, than instead of wasting a workout, try a lighter weight for more reps to get you going. Example: if your normal workout is 300lbs for 8-10 reps in the BP, than try 200lbs(or less) for 12-15 or more reps for a few sets. Sometime this can't get started feelings can be mental as well as physical. When rep'ing out and getting the blood flowing, the urge to begin training may returns. Good Luck.

i had to get my carb load perfect before each workout to be able to have enough gas throughout the whole routine!

and some days you just don't have it...for one reason or the other...

typically i'm pushing bnp for 295 but the other day i could only hit 255 before i said screw it i know i should'nt be here today..  :-\
