Its hard to hear members of the IFBB be so hatefull and direct so much malice at the PDI. I don't go to shows often but I am going to attend the NOC in order to support bodybuilders and the expansion of the industry in general. I and many other fans have received a lot of enjoyment from bodybuilders over the years, and they have gotten little in return. All the magazine pictures they posed for without a dime, all the hard work and commitment without a thank you, the articles they sign their name too without compensation and the product companies they are coerced into lying for. Millions have been made off their backs by already wealthy men and corporations. Supporting the show is the least I can do to give something back to them.

I don't know why other fans and peers do not feel the same way?

I would guess that even in the Olympics there is "higher ups" that get the word spread that they want to have tickets that can be alotted to them so they can be 'donated" (given) to any ppl.,orgs, clubs etc that they may deem deserving of the gratuity.Pretty baseless example imo on Chick's part to be using this to support his theory of how the PDI will not be sold out.

This is like all the Walmart employees, laughing and dancing in the parking lot as the Target across the street closes.  As they walk inside, Walmart mgmt laughs a bit louder.

Why? Well, now Walmart mgmt is now able to lower wages, cut hours, and eliminate benefits.  After all, where else can the employees work now?  Mgmt no longer has to worry about keeping shoppers happy either, and raises prices.  After all, there are no other places in town to shop!

Cashiers will giggle as they work for less.  Customers will laugh as they pay more and wait in longer lines to buy from a lower selection.  They'll all claim a victory.  They'll high-five and thank their Union rep for chasing Target out of town.

Be careful what you wish for.

Also, the Olympia gives away tickets to military personnel.  This started after 9/11.  What looks like a generous move, is just a way to fill up some empty seats.

Getbiggers,

Let's be honest above all else. Say what you want about Wayne giving tickets away to build goodwill or encourage interest in the sport. The bottom line is that they can't sell any tickets for this show. Local shows sell tickets to the competitors' friends, families, and people from their gym. IFBB shows sell tickets to fans who see these guys on magazine covers. The Night of Champions has neither. 90% of the competitors are from overseas. I don't know too many friends/families/gymrats who would pay $1500 for airfare/hotel/meals//tickets and deal with airport security and visa hassles just to watch a guy compete in a bodybuilding show. This ain't the Olympics fellas.

I wouldnt have bought a ticket if Lee wasnt competing so i cant argue with that

The Olympis generally draws between 5-6,000...couldn't tell you how many are comped. Last year, we drew over 6,000, and expect to draw over 7,000 this year.

That is probably true - I don't dispute the numbers (I wasn't there).

When I was there in 2004, I estimated based on what I was told the place held vs how many looked to be there.  I seem to remember Flex magazine stating nearly 4000 attended, but I think I would believe 3000 paid at most.

If the shows are looking to draw 7000 this year, I am impressed.

Special Ed is bang on. Wayne got greedy. The PDI could have been a shot in the, erm, glutes for bodybuilding - instead its looking shoddier by the minute. The ticket prices are simply outrageous. For that ammount of cash i could go and see Iron Maiden or Guns and Roses - and have enough money left over for a slap up meal and some beers.

You used this analogy 3 months ago when you were trying to get everyone on board the PDI train. You and Keith went unsually mute the last few weeks when one would expect the direct opposite.

Web site was being proclaimed as bigger and better then anything the IFBB ever did - yet never happened.

PDI radio claimed to go live and tell the truth - never happened.

Show was nearly sold out for months - clearly not going to happen.

Mutliple am. shows to qualify - cancelled and shows never happened.

This is nothing more then pointing out facts. This isn't hating on the PDI, Wayne of the wannabe pros in the show. These are undisputable facts and you can spin it however you want but at the end of the day the facts are still there.

No, I was trying to get everyone on the multiple federation train.  And I made it clear to everyone that when the 3rd and 4rd new federations arrived, I'd support them too.  With competition, whether it be in the form of PDI or whatever, the IFBB guys will get more money and benefits.

Web site was being proclaimed as bigger and better then anything the IFBB ever did - yet never happened.

I never proclaimed this website's greatness, and I never knew anything about it.  Don't attach it to me, please.

PDI radio claimed to go live and tell the truth - never happened.

I was paid to build the site and I did.  Obviously I'm not going to comment on something i was involved in, but I would absolutely encourage you to contact Wayne about this.

Show was nearly sold out for months - clearly not going to happen.

We're in agreement. I can't remember the last time any BBing show sold out. Can you?

Mutliple am. shows to qualify - cancelled and shows never happened.

Uh-huh... um I don't think this makes my WMT/TGT analogy any less valid.  I obviously had nothing to do with any PDI am shows.

This is nothing more then pointing out facts. This isn't hating on the PDI, Wayne of the wannabe pros in the show. These are undisputable facts and you can spin it however you want but at the end of the day the facts are still there.

I'm not spinning a thing.  My WMT/target example was used to illustrate the shortsighted thinking of those who will celebrate a one-party system when it comes to Bbing.  I know they are the tit upon which you feast, and that's fine.  But do not discredit my argument on competition by dissing the PDI, something I have no involvement with other than building sites.  I build sites for horse vet medicine too, and I'd expect you wouldn't call me out if the kentucky Derby sucked.   I build college websites.  Ya can't bitch at me for the price of textbooks :)

Dispel it by attacking my core argument: Competition creates better working conditions for employees and customers. period.

When have you ever supported anything the IFBB did? You constantly attack Chic and everything about the IFBB. When's the last positive thing you said about the IFBB? You don't say anything about WABBA or NABBA, they are other organizations in bodybuilding but clearly not competition to the IFBB.

Not attaching you to the web site greatness - that was keith.

Why would you not comment on something you are involved in, you have no shame in promoting Lee Priest's web site every other thread and you're involved with that, or do you mean commenting on something that actually happens? ;)

The first NPC show I went to in Colorado was sold out. The 2001 Colorado State I had to buy a ticket off from someone outside. I agree most pro shows will never sell out but the IFBB has never claimed they would like Keith did repeatedly... "nearly sold out" for months now.

Haha "the tit in which I feast" is funny. I've never professed myself as anything but an IFBB supporter. You on the other hand, try to play both sides of the fence. I didn't say competition was bad, but I wouldn't call the PDI competition. I can call you a bitch for whoring yourself to anyone who has $300 can't I? lol. I'm not attacking your arguement, when there is competition so be it and let's have a discussion then. Until that time, your point falls on deaf ears, you can't honestly consider the PDI competition to the IFBB.

Just because there are other choices doesn't mean it is of equal value.

if the olympia has drawn 6000 the last few yrs  this its totally because of the cutler vs colemen trilogy and having a dominant figure in colemen just like in any sport when theres a dominant team theres much more interest to see the underdog knochk the champ out!

once colemen retires it will take many yrs to rebuild that fan interest. if colemen loses this yr and comebacks next yr you ll get even a larger crowd, but eventually this cycle will end and go back to the normal 3500 to 4500for the olympia!

it will take a good 4 plus yr rein by someone to rebuild this interest!

so chick using the olympia as a example is basically a mirage , because all the shows jay and ronnie are not involved in tell the true fanbase of the ifbb!

You kidding?  I was all over 1fast400's Charlotte pro's sack.  I gave mad props to the nice responsive guys at the AC.  Europa got tons of love from me.  And the wildcard show was an awesome idea.

yea, I call chic out for stuff.  IMO, he bullshits people too much, and he is an IFBB mgmt/athlete liason with the title Athletes Rep.  Can you tell me I'm wrong? lol :)  And SRay, yeah, the dude put up a poster in Oct for a May show, and 3/4 of the guys weren't on the stage and never had a contrct.  That is false advertising.  At least with the PDI, the men on the poster have a contract signed.  But it's all good with shawn, he and I can debate points without negativity.

I love promoting Bbers and the sport.  I post links to good BBing websites on all sorts of forums.  I'll be arguing politics on a non-getbig board and use a pic of ronnie to make a point, and link it to getbig.  I'll drop a pic of lee when someone mentions superman, and point it to lee's site.  Growth, baby!  The routers of the world are pinging my packets, and when they come here, business grows for all!

ok cool.  i've been very careful to separate myself from politics recently, and I haven't beaten up on anyone in a while.  me and bob even shook hands a few days back about our past arguments.

Correction - I only whore myself out for $300 to anyone who wants a fast, profitable, good looking website  ;D  And I agree 1000% the PDI, NABBA, or anyone else isn't on par with the IFBB.  My contention was that as long as there are viable alternative options out there, albeit small ones, the IFBB will have to keep its nose clean.  You give anyone in any field an absolute monopoly, and they get shady.  It's just human nature.

No way dude!  It was the only unpredictable thing about that weekend.

Also I have odds that it's Ron-Dex-Cuts at the O.

Who wants in on this bet?  I want 2 to 1 odds!

Rob,

I'll take that bet. My $100 to your $50 that it doesn't go down in that order.

Also, one could argue that spinoff entities such as the USFL, XFL, and PDI aren't good for the fans because they dilute the product, confuse fans, lessen interest in the primary league, and contribute to viewer apathy. Furthermore, entities like the XFL rewarded the scrub football player who could never play in the NFL but did little to help NFLers. The XFL couldn't afford to pay the salaries or benefits associated with the NFL. The USFL tried to compete and was able to sign some big names like Herschel Walker, but in the end didn't have the product or fan support to stay afloat. The NFL-caliber guys who played there lost out on opportunities to receive credits toward their NFL retirement pension, lost out on statistics that could have enabled them to become Canton NFL Hall of Famers, lost out on years worth of marketability by being associated with an inferior product, and lost their jobs when the USFL went under.

Is it fair that the IFBB/NPC will blackball PDI competitors? Hell no. But until you have a way of stopping that, I think it's questionable about whether the PDI is good for the fans or the bodybuilders.

it's good for the fans who want to see something different.  I would never pay to see Coleman, Jackson, or Cutler.  I would pay to see Frey, Saviour, and many of the others who are expecting to be at the NOC.

Here is my prediction:  The IFBB will offer Frey a pro card even after he's competed in the NOC.

The IFBB doesn't simply "offer pro cards" like the PDI....there is a system in place to EARN them. He has to have met the criteria set forth by the IFBB affiliate in his country of origin, then be accepted by the IFBB.

Re: How is TJs health?
Thanks for asking! My shingles have got much better from the outside. But due to the lackof training for almost one month and the amount of sleep i need to recover my contest prep was greatly altered. At the Nabba show I really struggled with water, partly due to me way over carb loading. Once i hit the stage I was just running water out! My legs seemed to be dry but my upper body was bloated and wet! Crystal and I did the best we could w/ what was going on with my health! As far as my future goes, there has been some major changes! I have dropped out of the PDI as I would not due my self justice competing not at my best! And being I fear that the NOC will be the first and last contest of the PDI I do not want to go out that way! So Crystal and I have decided (after many hours of talking) to enter the 2008 NPC Masters Nationals championships. So it is back to the drawing board and time to get some rest and recover form this all. Crystal has 2 shows next April and May so we will be putting a lot of our time into her prep. But in a month or so I will be back in the gym getting ready for 2008!

Thank you everyone for you help and support throuth all of this and I must say the Dustin from Nabba is a great guy and a great promoter. I was not upset with him after the results of the show (even though I feel at worst i was 2nd and the 2nd place guy had at best 23" legs) Ok I am done bitching! Seriously Props to Dustin!

Thanks again to all!!
