Interesting thread. Its funny how many guys react to female bbers the way they do.

Back in the early 70's I dated a swimmer, butterfly and free, 100-200m. Could barely get my arms around her back. At the time I was training OL and was very close to her in weight. She was great, cute, feminine, funny, sweet, charming and it ended too soon, left me for an older guy with car.

Remember my first meeting with Bev Francis, this is the "old" Bev Francis at the Aust Powerlifting nats 1980. I was head ref in her division, and got kicked out of the chair for most of her squats and benches as they were all WRs. Met her after the meet, seen her lift heard the stories, and there were many, and was surprised at how "feminine " she was to talk to.

Met many corp business women who are size 8 and spend hundreds (maybe thousands ) on their clothes and hair, and I would rate their feminity much lower than either of the two girls above.

Much more to femineity than a look.

I have alot of respect for Female Body Builders.  Nothing intimidating about them.

Me too!!!  Even though I would probably at this stage not go as far.  I totally respect the discipline and strength (not physically strength but mental strength and emotional strength).  They as well as being physically strong have to be emotionally and mental strong as well.  Mentally to get through the daily grind of bodybuilding and emotionally as people still think they can put them down because of their choices.  I totally have the utmost respect for them.  I appreciate what they have done to their bodies it is absolutely awesome and no mean feat that is forsure.  I give my congratulations here and now to all you bodybuilding women!!

Since there are so many men that post here on the female board, I figured I'd ask you guys this question. I've been reading the posts on getbig long enough to be able to chuckle at some of the responses so I am prepared for the peanut gallery.

Many males that "disapprove" of strong looking women (natural or not) are the same one's who down load porn of muscular females. There is obviously a large market for it or there wouldn't be so many sites recieving so many hits. Men claim that they are disgusted by female muscle but in the closet they lust for it, in some cases worship it. What's the deal???

On the professional end, I am sure that female bodybuilders, like their male counter parts have to adjust and adapt to what the judges want to see. Plain and simple. On the ametuer level I think it's a matter of personal choice on what kind of package you want to bring to the stage(until you reach the National's anyway).

I  compete as an ametuer heavyweight bodybuilder and I am working on gaining mass for next year. Do I use gear? No. Will I ever? Maybe. Maybe not. As a natural I can outlift a few of the men in my gym and go rep for rep pound for pound with a few. I get stared at depending on what I'm wearing by men and women and the only men who seem to have a problem with my muscularity are men who are out of shape. So if female muscle offends you guys then maybe you should look at why it offends you and stop criticizing those of us who are comfortable in our skin.

Of course, the reason pro. IFBB FBB competition went "into the virilized shiiter" is because the contest judges, promoters, and the wonderful "laugh all the way to the bank" Weiders strongly pushed awarding the Ms. Olympia's top prizes to the FBBers who would come in progressively "bigger-and-tighter" every year!  It's a no-brainer to realize that the ONLY way a woman's body can look this way is with aid of AAS/GH.

As the result, the FBB contest judges/promoters/Weiders helped KILL FBB as an appealing-to-the-general-public competitive event as the "she-he" first-place "look" evolved and developed (e.g. Ellen Van Maris to Kim Chevisky and, finally, Iris Kyle).

Place the blame of the demise of pro. female BB on the shoulders of those it FIRMLY belongs...the IFBB judges and promoters and the Weiders!!  With the advent of fitness and figure competitions, FBB was "boxed-in" and had nowhere to go!

FBB with its virilized massive look will always be around though...as a backroom/bedroom cult appealing to a relatively small following of schmoes...as the much more appealing, FEMININE, LOOK of the fitness/figure competitors has/will capture the physical culture market (which sure beats the border-line anorexic pipe-stem arms and bird-legs "runway model look", IMO!!).

Oh by the way, will someone please help me out with Renee...is she (he?) a trans-sexual/hermaphrodite, transvestite, sex-change-op., or what??!  Is she (he?) actually allowed to compete in pro. FBB competition?!  Shades of the 70's and transgendered Dr. Renee Richards' efforts to dominate female tennis!!

Yes totally agree on all of these points.  Then what about this, I dont know about others on this thread but if I am going to pay money to see FBB's compete then I want to see some muscle --- Does everyone agree with that?  If you dont want to see it then dont go to the Ms. Olympia etc blah blah!

Yes, I will pay money to watch FBB because being a dyed-in-the-wool weight-trainer (BB, Oly lifting and PL) I've trained with recreational/competitve FBBers since the 80's, and thus greatly admire their work ethic/dedication, etc., which mirrors mine!

Also, despite some problems I may have with levels of heavy female muscularity and deep husky voices, what still makes a woman A WOMAN IMO is her INNER qualities...personality, intelligence, and character!

Surely, we will all agree that, like in the movie Pumping Iron II, regardless of Bev Francis' "masculine BB look" she was inside "all-woman"...as her subesquent life clearly bore out!!

Exactly!  I train in a gym where there are a lot of full on ffb's and they are genuine and lovely females who really have the time of day for you.  I have asked many (to me probably dumb questions) and I have gotten answers.  But I have to say that we also have some figure/bikini girls in the gym and they wont even look in your direction let alone give you any help.  I look at them sometimes and think you know we are all women no matter what we look like but they seem to think that they are the elite!!

They don't offend me at all... So long that it's not grotesque a la Renee Toney. In fact, there's a girl in my gym I usually see training with "muscles" and she looks good.  :-*

But that is exactly what the thread is about! --- What is grotesque just because they are females with possibly more muscle that some men or that they are not that facial attractive!  Cos I dont know about you guys but there are some butt ugly "male" BB's in my gym that I personally think look grotesque!  Not having a go here but that is exactly what we are saying --- I guess live and let live!!

Did I strike a nerve?  God you must really hate me.  Should I like a woman that has no ounce of feminimity left in her?  Female BBers don't bother me but nothing about that person says female to me.

Ok cap86 just a point here --- no you should have to like a woman that has no ounce of femininity left in her cos then she would be a male and that would make you gay!

The woman up in the above post has no ounce of femininity in appearance, which having muscles is related to.  Women with muscles is fine with me.  There can be too big in both sexes.

That is true! but I think FBB's get a rough time of it and personally I think they add to the bodybuilding community in a very big way ("big" ha ha).  There has to be extremes in every aspect of human life (extreme left and extreme right).  I think I am going on a bit about it but I have been an advocate for womens bb for a long time and I am not about to change my point of view ---BTW I am not saying you are trying to change my mind.

Hate is such a strong word. I asked but got my answer in a response you posted in a diff thread...you are a swimmer which means I am probably bigger than you (I am natural) which is why you may feel "uncomfortable" with the female bodybuilder physique.

FBB isn't a meat show. It's a contest judged below the neck for the most part.

To have a female stay at or below 10% indefinitely is not a good thing to do, ARMZ though I appreciate your offer I would much prefer a guy who could handle my fat 16% ass ;) the rest of the year.

Pics, none that really capture my off-seasonness...both of these are from the Olympia (Gene took the first one and the second was taken Sat night with a friend) but I was keeping it under a little control at that point-since then I have had ice cream, cookies, donuts, cheesy beef sandwiches, cheese, everyday...I'm telling you I LOVE the off-season.

I was probably 132 in the pic and will get up to 140ish
For those that think I hate women with muscles, this looks very good to me.

thanks for that I think that is what I was trying to get at.  It is all about what that person has done with their body.

Fair enough.  I guess my point was that I would still like to see enough femininity to know it is a woman.

muscles on a woman are like breasts on a man

E

That is ridiculous (all humans have muscles) and you know what I have a couple of men in my gym that have Breasts!!  Now that my friend is weird.

Of course and anyone would.  But here is another thought I bet men that dont like muscle on a women:

1)  would never go up to her and tell her to her face --- I think az touched on that
2)  never tell a fat women that they think she is fat

I think in actual fact there would be a discrimination law against the number 2) point.
