8 months within to my current relationship I got my girl a .50ct diamond ring. She cried then was happy, then cried and then held me for abit, and then.. well you have to be 18+ for that story. at 2 years into the relationship I got her an engagement ring, but we are not in engaged. 2.5 ct diamond ring. Same story just funnier, she didn't want to open the box fear for it to be empty. Then the 18+ happened again. Now I just buy her food and a movie, like to old days. To hell with rings. Diamond are not forever, you know why? Because you'll dead before they get put back into the ground.

IMO, Dont go half way with a promise ring, talk is cheap.. IF they mean that much to you, spend the extra cash and get an engagement ring.

my 2 cents...

if i love a girl i'll propose...

a promise ring shows that someone is unsure about love...

you either r in love or not

heed this sonnet

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

I agree with Toxic and I love the sonnet!

IMO, a promise ring just seems so high schoolish. High schoolish as in the 60's!  But if you are in to that sort of thing, that's your business.  Good luck to you whatever you decide to do.

I say skip on the promise ring and save it for the real deal. An engagement ring. That will truly tell her how you feel about her.  Wink

is it true that the first time a woman gets engaged its a diamond, but if she gets divordced, etc then it's ok to get her another stone or a ring that has several stones?

I told my girl to chill with the promise ring ans instead I bought her nice jeans (hence the jeans thread) I told her that I didnt want to spend alot of money on something that will look small and insignificant but rather to buy something you would actually use!

Its not even that, rings in General are very expensive. Even a half decent engagement ring will cost anywhere from 4-5 thousand dollars. then you have to worry about the quality of the cut, flaws in the diamond(s), etc. You know the drill, the more you spend, the better quality cut of diamond you get. It pays to know a good jewler.

I know. I think unless someone is loaded it is ghey to spend tons on a ring. If you are rich...cool. I know people who didn't own homes who went out and spent thousands on rings. People that had kids already, no college fund, but spent a mint on on rings Undecided

My engagement and wedding rings were both rather inexpensive. We bought a house instead. I had a great marriage, and still wear them around my neck to this day. They have not turned green as of yet Grin

I hear ya. Thats why its best if you know of or have a good hook up with a jewler. Things can get pretty pricy.
