Post by: OTHstrong on June 19, 2012, 07:56:14 PM

I know he was competitive in powerlifting and I know he is a big dude, someone said nearly 300lb, but this is all fun and games, besides I am pretty confident, I know I have done 14 reps with 5 plates so fuck it, I will take the risk  ;)

Thread hasn't backfired, besides there is no way that it can cause if he beats me, he is a fucken monster, and no shame losing to someone who can pull it 15 times, cause that's what it will take to beat me. 8)

Hahaha "hat with propeller"!  ;D

Seriously though, five plate deadlift is serious business - it's been my strength goal my entire training life to pull 495 off the floor and despite repeated attempts I've never done it. Deadlifts have always been abysmal for me - I've squatted over five plates before but never deadlifted it.

One time I was squatting 370 and some chick walks about a foot in front of me and says"Good morning Tim,how you doing"?

I got so pissed off I set a new PR for reps.

Fucking idiots have never lifted anything heavier than the pink dumbells.

You know, not only do I have a total lack of caring for what you believe or do not believe, but I also know that, if I DID post a video, you'd challenge a) it's not me, b) the plates are fake, c) I am not, infact, drug-free (and want a verified drug-test profile mailed to you), etc.

So even if I did give two shits about what you believe, what would be the point? As is, I'd have to sacrifice an important deadlift session to appease someone I don't even know (I am always following a program, being a competitive powerlifter and all, and very rarely do reps of 10 or more) and trouble my sometimes-training-partner (I almost always lift alone, getting spots from random gym members), Peanuts, to come to the gym so he could use his camera to videotape my doing it. (As I have said, I don't have a cell phone or camera; never have had one).

About four months ago I pulled a tight, controlled (many would say my lowering speed on each repetition was almost a negative) 10 reps with exactly 500 (495 plus a 2.5 on each side) and without wrist straps. I think I perhaps had two more, if I pushed it. I had competed just recently and was just horsing around for a few weeks and decided I wanted to officially do 10 at 500, just for kicks.

Fourteen reps at 500 is a serious freak out performance, man. And guess what? I believe you! Did you use straps? Just wondering.

With straps and a faster lowering speed (but still controlled), I can see myself doing maybe between 15 and 20.

I have officially pulled 650 (raw) and was all set to yank a seven during my last meet (the 2012 Ontario Provincial Championship) when I had to ditch the deadlift component after injuring my knee on my second squat attempt and realizing it was NOT ready to pull big numbers off the floor. Hurt like a bitch warming up with 135 for shit sakes. Sucks. Next time.

You're a big puller, dude. Congrats. And if I ever DO videotape something such as what you challenge, I will certainly post it. But as I say, you wouldn't believe it anyway ...

Stay strong, Onetimehard. Oh, and I apologize for insulting your knowledge about the deadlift. I didn't know you were an accomplished puller. I jumped the gun.

Sorry to disappoint. However, I think pulling around seven when you're drug-free ain't too shabby.

Now go back to your triceps kickbacks, Mildred.

Cmon Chaos, I am 5'9

I had some 65 year old man start yelling. He was like"stop, stop,......put it down,.."
I was repping with 315 on the bench, so I thought fuck something is wrong, so I put the weight up and a said "what",... then he says your going to hurt your back from arching, I was like are you fucking kidding me. then the guy goes back to his bench and reps out with a 10 on each side.

Thanks, man.

Maybe some time we can hang and lift some weight. Let me know if you're ever in the east Toronto area.

So you say you saw the YouTube vid (
)? I actually didn't know it had been posted to YouTube.

I have actually done 31 with 315 (I am physically capable of more now ... if I trained specifically for such reps for a few weeks, that is) but when I did this I hadn't done reps over 10 for, like, a year, and I also had made a six-hour drive earlier that afternoon, down from Toronto to Akron, Ohio. Also, before squatting, we did bench, and I hit two sets of 10 with 315 and then, for fun, a single at 405. There was no plan on this day, obviously (ha, ha). It was just a fun time with some buds. We pulled some deads after the squats, too.

Then we ate pizza and drank gallons of Coke and iced tea.

Today I weighed 296 at the gym, just before my squat session. So nude, maybe 292 or something.

Not lean but also not a fatass.

Anyway, yeah, PM me if you're ever in my neck of the woods and wanna do some lifting.

Rob

So? That means you shouldn't strengthen the entire chain of muscles for a particular lift? Straps are a cop out. I hate straps. Reality is you can deadlift 500 for 5-6 reps. Let's be honest, using straps is like using a bench shirt or a squat suit, for reps. :D

Sorry to disappoint. However, I think pulling around seven when you're drug-free ain't too shabby.

Now go back to your triceps kickbacks, Mildred.

What? Topic said 5 plates for 8, well, 210kg x 5 is my current goal and i weight fucking 75kg. 300kg is in "very good" level, and no, I don't give a fuck about your drug use. I respect results, for me you can pop anadrol like there's no tommorow.

So? That means you shouldn't strengthen the entire chain of muscles for a particular lift? Straps are a cop out. I hate straps. Reality is you can deadlift 500 for 5-6 reps. Let's be honest, using straps is like using a bench shirt or a squat suit, for reps. :D

 ::) ::)
Bro I can't even complete a back workout without straps, my forarms get super pumped, almost painfully so, everyone is different, same with shoulders, I work my shoulders once every 2 months and they still over power my arms. Are deadlifts easier with straps,? obviously, doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

I demand that each plate used in this battle of titans be weighted to sub-ounce accuracy and the results verified by an independent third party and made publicly available.

Interesting.... I was doing 270kg deads for 6 reps and didnt think I was doing well... I pulled 320kg for a single training for strongman under 90kg..... Still didnt think it was good enough..

May rethink that now

key... big back  over big forearms...
its a matter of preference .... Ive never use a belt but some people do curls wearing a belt

Wearing a weightbelt regardless of the activity tells the unwashed masses, "hey, I know what I'm doing here and I'm brutally tough and serious."

agree 10000000%
coleman and yates the 2 greatest backs ever used straps every back workout, so does stubbs....
why should you let the smaller muscle forarms fail before your back 2nd largest muscle... and rob your back of been properly worked...
