Title: Ifbb pros and PDI
Post by: HRDCOR on August 21, 2006, 05:01:38 PM
This whole PDI thing will struggle to get any IFBB pro to join there organisation due to 1 major problem, and that is Sponsorship/endorsement contracts that a athlete may have !!

In the professional bodybuilding arena the primary earning potential for 98% of the pro athletes is not from show earning,( this is reserved for yet but the top 6-8 competitors) it is derived from Sponsorship contracts. It is these sponsorship contracts that pay a annual salary to athletes for the use of there image and appearance to promote their products and / or services.
These contracts can run into the 100s of thousands of dollars per annum and heres the kicker for the PDI, most of these contracts have a competition clause in them which nominate that the athlete must compete in a certain amount of Shows per annum as part of the exposure the company wishes their charge to receive,(the number usually runs into 3-4 shows per annum and in most cases the athlete has to name these shows prior to renewal of a agreement!) now unfortunately the PDI don't have a calender of events which could support such a requirement in a contract , plus the Sponsor may not recognise the PDI and its shows as a legitimate Showing for their athlete to be deemed plausible for the contracts requirements.

This I see is one of the main reasons that the IFBB pro contingent will not be going to the PDI , because basically they cant !!

This is ONE major sticking point for the PDI.

Great Post!

My only question is how they are going to twist this and place the blame at Bob's feet as per the norm.

Would be a good point except the fact that this only pertains to about 5-8 Ifbb pros. Most pros are broke, and have no contract to speak of. Lets see 1)ronnie2) jay 3)dexter 4)branch 5)johnnie jackson. There are a few others, but the percentage is low. In reality, this is exactly the reason why ifbb pros should consider the pdi. I bet money I myself am making more money the the majority of Ifbb pros and I have not even stepped on stage yet.....

How are you generating revenue from the PDI Rhino? There hasn't even been one show yet?

Is the organizer paying you to be in the show?

Could you elaborate on this?

Gunther Schleirkamp
Gustavo Badell

Hhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmm, Rhino, you might be right, there maybe more money in the PDI.
I wonder who all is making money over there and how, since no shows have taken place and no one has heard of the guys in the PDI?
You represent a supplement company?
Guest Pose all over the world?
Appear on magazine covers?
Won any Prize Money?
Sounds like a bunch of maybe's, on top of possibilitities and even hopefullie's mixed in with some Hillbilllie's?

You know what Shawn, now list the HUNDREDS of athletes who make nothing. I may have been off by a few, but the majority, are broke. Personal training, whatever.

Yes, I do represent several companies, and yes, I have been guest posing, and yes I have been all over the world, and plan to continue. Prize money, which is the point od the thread, is not where the money is.

Did you even read this thread? My point is when you are getting nothing, and have no chance to, the chance of getting something is better.

I know you want to attack me on every opinion, but at least you could read and understand what I am saying first.

Seriously how are you making money off the PDI?

The NOC will be cancelled, there is no way Lee P will compete in this show anymore.

he is just using it for leverage to try and create a stir and place higher at the olympia.

You know, all of the same arguments used against the PDI could have been used on the IFBB not so many years ago.  Every organization starts somewhere.  Some make it and some don't.  Why not let it play itself out and we will see what happens with the PDI?

Prize money, which is the point od the thread

I wonder where you get this notion from? The original post by HRDCOR was discussing competition clauses:

most of these contracts have a competition clause in them which nominate that the athlete must compete in a certain amount of Shows per annum as part of the exposure the company wishes their charge to receive,(the number usually runs into 3-4 shows per annum and in most cases the athlete has to name these shows prior to renewal of a agreement!)

Good luck with the preparation for the NOC

It's amazing how you can write that you WAS a fan of Gold Ray.

Like his personality would have anything to do with what his physique was like.

Let me put it this way: I don't rank Gold Ray as one of the Top 3 persons I come across online. And I honestly don't think much about online personalities either.

When it comes to bodybuilding physiques, Gold is one of the Top 3 physiques I've seen, with Levrone and an early Wheeler being the other two (Sergio doesn't count, he's in a league of his own ;D).

Regardless what Gold does, I will still think the same regarding his physique.

I'd be a total tool if I wouldn't.

Its amazing how you can be a huge fan of someone...follow their accomplishments and just think they are greatest.....kinda makes you build up this image of what a great person he might be.  But, when you see how they talk to and treat people it can shatter your whole image of them.

First of all, I can use whatever criteria I see fit to why I would be a fan. Second, your assessment is way off. Top 3? I don't think so. Not even close. Dorian, ROnnie, kevin, Arnold, Flex, chris, markus, gunter, dennis J. .....I can go on, and on with bodybuilders that are head and shoulders better than Ray.

Regardless what Gold does, I will still think the same regarding his physique.

I'd be a total tool if I wouldn't.

A little off here.  Ray had a nice body but not even close to the top 3 or 25.  The proof is in the results.  If I recall right he only won what 1 show.  Being 2nd or 3rd or whatever means you didn't have the best body.  It means everyone that placed before him is better.  And obviously his mouth affected his placings too.  But I do find it funny he now supports the group he couldn't get a win from.

I don't think I am over my head. My physique is much better. As usuall, you compare my offseason pics(300lbs). To someon, who is in condition(sort of). But please, that physique is not so great, many weaknesses, conditioning tobe the first.

You are in over your head.

I might be clueless, but AI am the only one in this group being photographed by magazines on a regular basis.

I think your confidence is great.

Nice reply, cocky and shit.

But do I agree?

Hell no.

But he's better than you, and he could definitely "carry your gym bag".

If you still think he can't, you're not cocky, you're delusional IMO. ;D

Did I miss something here or did these guys actually beat me? ???
Actually I officially won 2 shows ;D
For the record, throughout my entire career, there were only 2 Pro's  I didn't beat and that was subjective Lee Haney & Dorian Yates. :-[
As for the rest at one time or another, they all got beat and we took turns losing to each other, not bad company with Labrada, Christian, De Mey, Gaspari, Cutler, Levrone, Wheeler & Co.
Now, who exactly did you beat again and when did you receive your Pro Card?
Rhino or whatever your name is.....Now I have seen pictures of you and must say I was waaay off base.
No wonder I have never heard of you?
That being said, you look like you have a bright future in the PDI, did you get the latest New Flash?
If not, I'm sure your Boy Lee will drop it on you real soon. :'(
I never had the priveledge to become a fan of yours, since I never heard of you but since your doing so well, let me be the 1st to congratulate you on being crowned the Internet Mr.O  you look the part, love the Tats & haircut! ;D
Good luck with your career, what are you 40?
Stay fit and forever young you deserve it!

Good luckk in my career??? This is fun for me. What about you? Not beating pros you never competed against does not count. You never competed against many of the pros I referenced. But seriously, you obviously know who I am, evertime I post you are there stalking me, Why?

Look at you, at one time you were on top of the bodybuilding world, look at you now...you are a joke. A cliche that guys like me and my associates use as the backdrop to a bad joke.

Career??? You have no idea what that word means. I have a career, one that you could not ever fathom. Please dude, spare me the non-sense, I am so over it.

Shawn Ray-internet troll. Oh by the way, nobody, outside of our ridiculous world knows who you are, I have earned a reputation in the financial world, where people know me in many different capacities, who are you?????

When did I ever say I made millions of dollars per year????? I do well, enough said.

I am a bodybuilder for the pure love of it, and I enjoy many of the relationships I have been lucky enough to acquire. Unlike you and others, I don't do things with an agenda, I am not trying to make a living, I just enjoy it.

Does that bother you? Can you even comprehend that? Why don't yopu stop being such a creep, and try being nice to people, it may come back to you someday.

exactly how many ifbb athletes are there?  its up in the triple digits, or close to it, right?  how many of them have endorsements?

Actually you will be surprised ?? Allot of them most likely do , these are usually extensions of deals they had as armatures, I myself was sponsored by the same company for 15 years whilst competting, when I turned pro my sponsorship went from product supply and appearance money to a full time salary, and in that I had to nominate what I was going to do for that year, including shows , seminars appearances etc , my company had a minimum requirement of things I had to do through out the year to justify my salary base, things like guest posing over and above my contract where mine entirely and they also had a manager helping me organise things , so because of this being a common format for a sponsorship contract ,it would be hard for a IFBB pro to go to the PDI as they dont have enough events for a Sponsorship company to recognise value for money of their athlete, and if the company has no intention of sponsoring the PDI this also could be a sticking point , hence why we haven't sen a mass exodus of IFBB pros going to the PDI

Where the fcuk is the real Shawn Ray? I agree with Miss Karen that this version "sounds" like a champ. Those who have the accomplishments to earn bragging rights, are those I hope don't invoke them to nefarious ends. At any rate, these posts are mirroring the classy physique that was Shawn Ray.

Ok, at least now I know your Real name Jack.
I'll take it easy, kinda hard here when it is mostly ATTACK Mode after getting through some of the threads.
Your right, we never met, I have only seen 2 pictures of you and I wish you well.
This should be an exciting time for you, a fresh start and Big Stage.
I'll back off and enjoy the fireworks!
What will you do if the show doesn't happen?
You have a Plan B?
Try not to take the boards serious, you'll only lose your hair! ;D
Well, I'll take the Olive branch and back off, train hard and good luck.
S. Ray

Thank you Shawn, I apreciate that. That means alot to me, really. I feel better now, you have always been someone I look up to from a bodybuilding perspective. I do not have plan B, maybe you have some advise?

oh, marc, then let me ask you something...  why in the world would lee jump ship.  will it not void his twinlab contract due to limited contests?  6th in the 06 olympia was a lock, and he wont get to see it if he does the noc.  so what gives?
