why rich?

He's not exactly a bad fighter....
What is he, 23-1??   That's on hell of a MMA record.

I think it's going to be close, for sure.  But, Franklin ain't no chump.....even though he doesn't exactly look like a badass....

Rich is a Mr Nice Guy who can kick the shit out of you. Hes getting better all the time and his striking is key to this fight. If hes fluent and crisp with his punches and doesnt leave himself wide open then hes got a hell of a chance. He basically walked through Evan Tanner and hes one of the best in the business - but i guess its all about what happens on the night

Anderson has straighter strikes, Rich throws looping punches.  Rich is better conditioned, if it goes deep into the fourth or fifth round, Rich can take him.  Or he must get him to the ground and sub him.  (which would be tough)

The only advantage Rich has in this fight is his size and power.  Anderson has better and cleaner striking, better footwork, a slight reach advantage, and a better chin.  They are pretty even in terms of the groundgame, but I think Rich's wrestling is a little weak as far as take down defense goes.  Rich's only loss was to a southpaw, Anderson Silva is a southpaw, but, he can fight just as good out of the orthodox stance as well.  Bottom line is, Anderson will pick him apart standing, straight strikes beat looping ones everytime. Plus, Rich as a champion, has been inactive for seven months due to his injuries, and he is getting thrown right back in the mix with one of the top fighters in that weightclass, this has to be in the back of Rich's mind. Rich's best bet would be to take Anderson down and use his size and strength to tire him out for a few rounds and then either go for the kill in the fourth or fifth or get a Decision.  If he doesen't he will get his ass handed to him and alot of tuf noobs will cry once again.  I would say 60-40 advantage Spider.

I'm going to with Anderson. Rich is good but I think he's going to lose this one. I agree with Chute that after a 7 month layoff, going up against Anderson is not what most people would want. Anderson by KO.

I know a striker who throws a looping lead hand hook and overhand right (I know it is preceded by a kempo eye poke) that KOs punchers with straight punches.

Franklin has said himself that he is not a KO puncher, his only one punch KO is against Nate Quarry.  Chuck Liddell hits alot harder than Franklin ever will, he also thumbs alot harder too.

I'll go with Rich Franklin to take this one even though Silva is a hell of a fighter. They both have good cardio but Franklin will have atleast 15 lbs. on Andersen which will allow him to muscle Silva around in the clinch. I think Franklin will punish him with elbows and knees from the clinch.

the thing about Chuck is he doesnt need the eye pokes, his power is basically unmatched and he can dominate his opponents easily enough without it. Now and again he'll have an off night, but the power is always there. Rich does have good punching power, but he wears you down through the rounds with combinations and hes pretty good on the ground too

The punch that KOs you is the one you don't see.  The thumbs play a great role in blinding you.  In both Randy matches that Chack won, he was hit with an overhand right, and a right hook.  Randy didn't see either punch.  If you look on Sherdog at the photos, you will clearly see the punches were preceded by the Kempo eye poke.  Against Tito, Tito was shielding quiet nicely prior to the poke.  Then Chack poked him, he didn't defend the kick as well, and he shelled and took bombs from Chack.  Post fight, Titos cornea was red and filled with blood.  Tiger Whites night was ended with a thumb.

I'm picking Silva to win tomorrow, he has better standup and Rich's chin has always been suspect!

Boy that is true.  I thought he killed Nate Quarry, literally.  I don't get the whole "chin is suspect".  Where has that been proven?

Rich got dropped by Evan Tanner,Dave Loiseau and KO'd  by Machida.  He didn't just get knocked off balance either, on all these occasions he was legitimately hurt, he also got busted up pretty good in his fight with Rivera. Anderson Silva on the other hand has never been dropped, hurt, or Ko'd.  He has taken some clean shots from hard punchers and never been phased.  Compared to Anderson Silva, Ace's chin is suspect.
