You obviously have a grudge mang. Not sure what this has to do with police getting reports of suspicious devices under bridges and following procedure. Again, they had no idea they where signs, nor any idea about the campaign being put on by these tards.

If they knew you would have a point. But, they did not, just like most all of us. I live in the area 2 blocks from one of the bridges on the charles. Never saw a thing at night.

I have no grudge... I simply believe that people should look to themselves for security and not necessarily for every policeman who walks around... sorry.

So what you're saying is we have to tell a policeman everything we do now? Because we may or may not scare the general public... even though it's like leaving a broken lite-brite on a sidewalk.

Dude, there are black metal non lit boxes all over the place... Cable boxes, Electrical boxes, Phone Boxes... They're all over... Should we charge the phone company, the telephone company, and the cable company with Terrorism?

Is this a metal box you'd rather see?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ANTIQUE-BLACK-METAL-TISSUE-BOX-HOLDER-FLOWER-AND-DESIGN_W0QQitemZ170076146377QQihZ007QQcategoryZ598QQcmdZViewItem

That point makes no sense. If you stack a brick of cable box's in the girders of a bridge that carries trains, it would arise suspicion. It would look out of place. It might look something like a bomb, to a passer by. Hence, them calling the police. When the cops follow procedure they take it seriously. There lives could be on the line. Maybe it is a joke maybe it is not.Random box's do not sit under major bridges a lot of the time, that might resemble a thing called a bomb. Of course eletrical box's in there proper place do not bring suspicion.

My point is they followed procedure, and had no idea what the "things" where.

statistically - police take 11 min to arrive at the scene of a crime.
statistically - do most crimes take more, or less, than 11 min after initial 911 call is made?

statistically, most police do show up afterwards.  It's not their fault, it's the logistical nature of the 'law enforcement' setup.  Just carry your own piece, keep your eyes open, and don't start shit, and you're good.

How would you know it's a random box... You ever walk by a Train track? There are boxes around... for switching... How would you know what's supposed to be there and what's not?

You're saying that 1 black box ANYWHERE that you don't know what it is, and you're gonna go Terror Alert "Elmo" because of it?

Come on... that's just not feasible.

My point is that no one knows what's supposed to be in any given place at any one time... You're not omnipotent, no one is. We should just start looking for boxes everywhere to stop terror?

Let's protect our ports first.

What kind of -i d i o t- thinks that if someone designed a bomb... they would put BLINKING FUCKING LIGHTS all over it!?

Obviously, the cops in Boston watch a lot of SciFi Channel.  ;D

They where not on a train track. They where in the girders of a bridge out of place where they should not have been. You are either really slow, or a gimmick messing around. its not that hard to see why random black box's placed under major bridges in a major city would arise suspicion.

Why are you trying to change the facts? the reports where in the day, you could not see the lights. It looked like a black metal box with wires on it. You seem to post pretty seriously when you argue a point you agree with. Yet ,post like a 5 year old when you do not. How would one see blinking lights when they where not on, in the day light?

The sings only light up at night, hence them looking like flat black boxs in the day.

Train Track... bridge... the point is that it's a box, and you don't know if it's supposed to be there or not... YOU CAN NOT KNOW IF IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE THERE... NO ONE PERSON KNOWS WHERE EVERY BLACK BOX IS SUPPOSED TO BE.

Dude... I'm no gimmick, I'm the real deal...

I'm hardly slow either... I'm explaining that I think that everyone was over-reacting about a stupid little teeny ass box... You're apparently not catching on though.

Have you ever seen the bridges in questions? They are foot bridges that carry people under train tracks. There is no box's on them ::) Your problem is with the bomb plans for major citys, not the Boston police doing there job.

From a distance, maybe, but after examining them, the lights would have been obvious.

Correct, which the police reported in real time as it happened. But, procedure calls for them to treat each package a certain way. They did not know if they where "dummy" devices leading to a real bomb, or what was going on. The fuzz had no clue about any of the "sings". They had 10 reports, of 10 different devices from different parts of the city. With no knowledge of the "devices" ,they took them seriously.

No, but it's still a bridge... If one day, someone decides to monitor how many people walk on the bridge, they may put a box on it... Will you call the cops then?

We will never agree on this... why are we keeping this up?

I say, it's a bridge... and so what? You say... they deserve to be locked up... I will never agree with that.

you find a lump in your neck, so you go to the doctor- the doctor will assume it is cancer until proven otherwise.

your a cop and you see a suspicious device- you assume its a bomb until proven otherwise

in law enforcement you always prepare for a worst case scenario

Judging from your posts about how and where the box's where planted, that does not seem to be the case.

I found this on another site, and it sums up this situation perfectly:

Quote
I'm 50% amused and 50% frightened by Boston's reaction to this. I live in New York, saw one of these around town, and thought to myself "someone hung up a lite-brite."

I appreciate that Boston is being cautious, but one of the responses to a reported terrorist threat clearly has to be an evaluation of whether or not that threat exists. Otherwise you'll throw away resources and public awareness on every soda can sitting on a subway platform. So did Boston try to figure out what was going on? How long does it take you to realize something is four D-cells and some LEDs?

I agree every threat should be checked out, but not every threat is real. Public officials overreacted, wasted alot of people's time and money, and now they're embarrassed. So to defer attention away from their own idiocy, they're throwing some trumped up charges at a couple of artists (who aren't going to get convicted of anything) and claiming that Ted Turner owes them a million dollars (which they'll never get awarded).

And for all the horrible reporting I've read about this advertising campaign being a "bomb", ATHF has gotten more free publicity than anyone could have dreamed. Short term spin: Ted Turner is a terrorist. Long view: Lite-brites are the new Big Dig.

dont you think they're better off over-reacting, then under-reacting.. the cops are probably laughing about it too now.

I followed it as closely as I needed to as I am not fearful of boxes.

Notice the part where the other 8 cities didn't freak out? Also notice where the citizens in Boston are used to odd Marketing ploys and believe it's pure hysteria on the part of the officials.

No, I think they are better off making careful judgments... When you wield the power to remove someones liberty (by arresting them), you don't get to make mistakes like this, not in my book... sorry.

They overreacted, period.  And now they're just making themselves look dumber by going after a couple of kids because they're embarrassed.

Yes it is. The cops had no way to know they where just signs since they did not see them lit up at night and had no clue about the campaign.

Ps, the kids you are talking about are pushing 30.

they're patsies.

like the guy in the book depository, or those witless murderous arabs on remote controlled planes who were enjoying the NYC skyline...
