and distribution.  Somebody like Seymour Butts does well because he
combines his directing with his distribution, plus the merchandising.

A majority of that is probably make-up, screening who you're to be filming with, what positions, how long they want the shot or how much footage is wanted....probably a lot more behind the scenes stuff than anything.
It's like being a musician...I would make $400 for an hour long private party. Great? Hardly. What about the 2hour drive each way? So, now you're looking at 5 hours total. What about not being allowed to be seen outside of the closet they put you in for fear of having a musician mingle with guests? Deli trays are the only food you get served, gas and bridge tolls come out of that as well. Point being, your hourly rate sounds great at $400/hr, but then the other things involved cut that down to more than half of that.
