To those who hate on squier:

Guy isn't such a bad player. Decent technique, and pretty good chops- though the former would help the latter.
However, that tone is atrocious! Hollow, lack of depth, to mid-range-ish, and not enough "weight" to it.
Once again, proves the theory: anybody can play good or great. But you gotta have the hands to produce tone. It's all in the hands, and most people don't even understand that.

I'd say the tone is pretty darn good considering the guitar.  I take it you aren't into country or alternative country music?

A Telecaster can play anything, be it country or jazz. Danny Gatton played numerous styles, and got many many different tones from his Tele(s).
A good player can make any guitar sound good. That is my eventual goal, and at the moment I'd say I'm far from it, others may disagree. :-\
A good player can make that Squier sound like a $35k Gibson, should he have good hands, know how to manipulate the rig (same rig as the guy in the video plays), and "squeeze the strings" right. Most do not understand this, and it's not an easy principle to convey-especially over a message board where every person knows everything. I've had this conversation with others on many sites, and while most disagree, some agree though reluctantly.

anyone who strives to attain that guitar tone should be shot, and that distortion is SOOOO overplayed that it hurts.

His sweeps need a little work but his timing was good, his vibrato, bends were great, nice a.h. thrown in there. His sound wasn't that bad at all considering its on youtube. A couple of flubs here and there but I thought that was pretty damn cool

alot of it is in the hands but the guitar definitely makes a difference in how the tone will sound.

Tons of kids can play like that.

The video = innovative, but it is nothing special, the song = very easy to play.

completely wrong

thats why all the top players just go with starter-kit squire strats, because why buy an expensive one if they all sound the same anyway ::)

Sound and how a guitar feel are different. A Squire strat will feel much different than a '54 Strat, but you if you have the hands you can get the tone you're going for on either instrument.
Again, most people do not understand this. I've explained it ad nauseam    and people just don't understand the concept.
