i was looking through some old copies of MD last night and he bases his diets on Scott Connelly's theories of "nutrient partitioning", he claims that you can eat unlimited calories as long as they come from protein and fats and no carbs, what do you think?

This morning for breakfast I had a handful of lean ground turkey w/ 3 whole eggs scrambled and 6 Omega 3&6 caps...

 Then I'll have...

2-3 scoops of IsoPure in 20oz of water with 2 tablespoons of natural almond butter

2 chicken breasts cooke din extra virgin olive oil w/ handful of Omega/fish caps...

Turkey tenderloins w/ cup of mixed almonds, macadamias...

Post workout 3 scoops of Isopure w/ 2 tablespoons of natural peanutbutter

Tilapia patties w/ greenbeans and 4 Omega caps and table spoon of flax oil.

I hardly do cardio and my abs are comming in deep.

For the first week to 10 days it got to me as I felt lethargic and physically weaker in the gym...

Then you adapt. Now I am not AS strong but I don't care because my interest is fat loss or getting in a ketogenic stae where the body taps into stored fat for fuel instead of glucose(carbs).

I never get 'mid-afternoon slumps' and I am hardly ever really hungry. I have to remember to eat and remind myself to. Probably from stabalized bloodsugar and dormant insulin levels.

Testosterone and gh/igf levels are usually peaked because of this diet. I look fuller than normal and like I said...cardio at 30 minutes in the morning 3x's a week and steadily losing fat is a good thing.

I find myself NOT craving carbs and find myself craving peanutbutter or almond butter w/ my shakes. It kind of clogs me so I usually have a teaspoon of natural coconut oil before I go to bed so I'll be sure to 'drop it like its hot' in the morning while I'm text messaging people or flipping through MD.

I dunno if he claims that.

But I'd like anyone who believe such a thing to drink two gallons of lard everyday for two weeks, add 300 grams of protein, and then lets see if they're still the same weight.

ketogenic diets do work...there are more than enough peer reviewed journals and research proving they work

basically you can eat unlimited protein and fats (of course no human will be able to eat much anyways with this diet)

one bad side effect is your breath will smell like ass, you have to chew gum every waking hour

serious question here, why dont you try the adonis diet?

Do you think it would work though??? If you are taking in more calories than you are burning wouldnt you still be gaining weight??

Not saturated fats but fats from the right sources and even with that you have to keep it about...for a guy 200lbs at 12-15% bf around 15-18g of fat per meal w/ 50g of protein per meal at exactly 6 meals.

One thing though...when in ketosis you tend to get really bad breath. i chew gum all day long. You kind of have a...drymouth beer breath type of smell to it. You can 'taste' alcohol in your breath. It's weird. Keotones I reckon.

I think you still have to be on a calorie deficit on this diet. I don't think you can eat as much as you want.

The weight loss and cuts you are seeing are just a loss of water weight.

However its a great diet if you want to be really lean. Probably the best out there

Hahahaha...beat me to it.

You should take a fiber capsule or metamucil with it. I use natural coconut oil at night.

Your shit...looks like toothpast at the bottom of the bowl. It's weird. Too much info I know but just an observation.

True dat, my breath was smelling like shit. Ya know you usually can't realize you have bad breath by yourself, usually someone tells you. But when you know you have bad breath without anyone telling you, you know its bad. You can't be macking on hoes with breath like that.  ;)

Lets sort some things out here.

There are three caloric states: Hypo (undereating), iso (eating your daily exp) and hyper (overeating).

You can eat a ketogenic diet in all three cases, gain, maintain and lose weight.

Obviously.

But the idea of a ketogenic diet, is that there will be no carbs in the body, and thus, the body will use fat as a source of energy, ketones.

A ketogenic diet is very effective in burning away at the fats.

Problem is that you perform very poorly in a ketogenic state.

Enter: Cyklo-ketogenic Diets, such as Bodyopus and UD 2.0

I am aware of ketogenic diets and have been in the the most extreme state of keto acidosus...... when I was diagnosed with diabetes..... I think body opus and diets like that are a better solution and healthier imo

and thanks for clarifying hedge

I've been using the below diet for about 2 weeks and have lost a nice amount of fat and still stayed hard. This is the diet posted in the other Palumbo diet thread. This is unlike other low carb diets I've done in the past, where I have become flat as a pancake and had a hard time choking down all the food. I never feel hungry, nor do I have severe cravings. I think the peanut butter is perfect, because it allows me to eat something that I love. It's almost like a mini cheat meal every day.
I have been steadily cutting even with fairly little cardio. The low cardio is not by choice, but due to time constraints. I have been working out with weights about 4 times a week. If I was able to up my cardio, I would lose even more fat.

I have always thought Palumbo knew his shit, and this diet is proving it to me.

Meal 1 6 whole Omega-3 eggs
Meal 2 8oz chicken with 1/2 cup raw almonds
Meal 3 50g whey with 2 tablespoons all natural peanutbutter
Meal 4 8oz salmon with 1 cup asparagus with 1 tablespoon macadamia nut oil
Meal 5 50 g whey with 2 tablespoon PB
Meal 6 6 whole eggs

I have been eating a lot of fish on this diet, and replace the above chicken with more fish or red meat. Chicken is my least favorite meat, only because I've eaten so much of it over the years. I am truly tired of chicken, but I do still eat it every once and a while.

Lastly, I 100% agree with the fact that if you eliminate your carbs, you can eat as much as you want. I have proven this with my own body over and over. In past diets, when I wanted to cut as quickly as possible, I would eat just chicken breasts all day long, some of them with veggies. I found the more I could stuff down, the faster I would lose fat. My body's metabolism would ramp way up, and I would just sit and sweat, losing a ton of fat, all while sitting in an air conditioned office. Now while this sounds easy, it is about the hardest thing you can do. Eating a full size chicken brest every 1.5 to 3 hours is brutal, and after just a couple, you will quickly become sick of eating. I used to have to have a big glass of water handy so I could quickly chew and wash it down, sometimes gagging. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

People who "fail" on low carb diets like Atkins simply don't eat enough and allow their metabolisms to slow back down. This also causes serious lethargy and poor workouts. If you eat enough, you will feel fine, and have decent workouts. Not as good as a workouts on carbs, but still good enough. After 2 weeks on the above diet, my strength has returned to the state is was before the diet, but at first, I did suffer from some really shitty workouts.

I just finished some lean red meat w/ some Omega caps and 1 teaspoon of peanutbutter.

Main thing is...50g of protein per meal, 12-18g of fat per meal and ONLy carbs should come from fiberous leafy greens.

For bodybuilders, I would say ketogenic diets are simply not the way to go...for most people they do not work as most NEED carbs for mental and physical well-being.....

I couldn't agree more. There is a world of difference between the carbs found in leafy greens, and most other carbs. You add bread, rice, or any sugar to the above diet and it will make you fat.
