Yet, somehow he has big lats. You think maybe he knows something you don't know?

dont fully agree with your coment there...
that could be down to genetics...
choice is an illusion

As far as I'm concerned, forget training for strength!  I am trying solely to gain muscle tissue from this point on!  I was doing 315 pound bench presses for reps and almost 400 for negatives at a body weight below 200 and did that do anything at all for my chest?  Now that I am focusing more on the squeeze and the pump, my chest is finally starting to grow!  And I could probably only bench 225 for 12-15 these days, compared to 18 before.

The only exercise I want to get strong on these days is the DEADLIFT.  It's one exercise I find that lifting heavy does indeed most efficiently result in gaining muscle mass for the back.  I will realistically hit a 475 deadlift this year, but I'm aiming for 500 anyway.  I think in general, strength training is not the most efficient way to gain muscle.  Even Cutler was only deadlifting 495 for reps in his videos at the most and look at his back - most muscular back on earth.

As for Dave...

Epic shit form.  ;D

My question would be: would training with better form really help Dave?  ???  Truth of the matter is, ALL pro bodybuilders and top amateurs train a little differently and ALL of them are world class.  Bodybuilding is not an exact science!  Dave has found what works for him, so all the power to him.  He is 42 and is responding better to bodybuilding than he ever has, and is huge.  He's starting to make me think that extreme dedication can work for everyone since he claims he is not among the genetically elite.  That is motivation for me - better than seeing some freak like Ronnie Coleman eating haphazardly at the steakhouse and still being huge and strong.  I am more motivated seeing people maximize their genetic potential as Dave has.  Just my opinion.

I trained that way when I first started and I didn't grow for shit

but Jay Cutler trains this way too, using a lot of momentum so it is different for everyone

I personally hate using "heavy weight", I have less of a pump, less results too

excellent points...all of them, matt! just yesterday, a young local bodybuilder walked into the gym where i have my office. the last i had seen him was about 9 months ago. he had been getting ready for the delaware state bb'in show...then dropped out of site. when i saw him yesterday, i asked him where he had dissappeared to. he said at about 5 weeks out from the show, he was trying to bench 465 and tore his pec right off the bone. i could see the disfiguration THROUGH HIS SHIRT!! it looked horrible. now he can hardy do any chest work and his competitive career is over before it even started! is it worth it?? i think not. it is NOT necessary to bench 400-500 lbs to have big pecs!! theres a reason im still able to train and compete after 30 years in the gym.

as far as my "dedication" goes...im made fun of all the time because i dont leave my house for 20 weeks up to a show ( except to go to the gym) its just how i do it. i do not drink 1 single alcoholic beverage. i do not go out to a club..or party...or family gathering..or any event that would put me in a situation that takes me away from my routine in any way. i dont not eat restaurant food. i drink nothing but water...nothing...for 20 weeks. etc etc etc. why do i do it like that??? because thats what I MUST do to win. my genetics are not all that, so i lock in to the most highly calculated and regimented routine i can muster. just TODAY i had victor del campo making fun of me and asking me why i cant just go out to club with him tonight and get drunk. HE IS COMPETING IN THE USA'S A FULL 2 MONTHS BEFORE MY SHOW!!! he will do shit like that till the last 4 weeks, then pull some work out of his ass and get by and place top 5 in the welters...does it every year!! you know what...even if i COULD do that and get away with...i just wouldnt!

not sure what "milos style" is, but im assuming its higher volume, less weight? trust me, youll get more out of that. you know whats funny is that all of that training footage of me  is all high volume stuff taken out of context. squadfather makes fun of my 90 lb flat presses, yet they were being done as part of a drop set...20 reps with the 90's, drop to 60's. theres no way for the viewer to know that. same goes for my 60 lb overhead dumbell tri extensions. i was dropping from the 100's for 30 reps...down to the 60-70 for whatever i can get. i guess thats just not hard core enough for the marshmallow man!!...lol!!

This was painful to read.  :-X

do not go out to a club..or party...

What's interesting here is that if you were to go to a club, you would be the center of attention.  Muscle garners so much attention it's not even fair.

I am built on a cat frame

Same here!  And I'm starting to like it actually...I think what little muscle I have looks more dramatic on a tiny skeleton.  It will be better once I get to and maintain a lean 210.

regarding the club thing....I KNOW!!! its very frustrating that when i look my best, im self- banned from the clubs!! lol!! theres like a 2 month window after a show that i still look good and can go to the clubs....i take full advantage of that!

yes, its all about biomechanics. having thicker limbs and a thicker trunk gives a mechanical advantage, weather or not the size is muscle or fat.

DUDE, 238 LBS WITH A 385 BENCH?!?!?!? im not saying thats weak, but it certainly qualifies as absolutely AVERAGE gym strength!!! on a daily basis i see skinny brothers walk in off the street, micky d's food in hand, drop onto the bench and warm up with 315 for 10 reps before hitting 405 multple times. i dont even care about how strong i am and ive done 365 for 5 sets of 5 back when i used to bench.

you are officially never allowed to make fun of my strength again!!!!!!!!!! bro, youre making a habit of owning yourself!!!

you know whats funny is that all of that training footage of me  is all high volume stuff taken out of context.

Much of this controversy is my fault. As the editor of those clips I chose the most dynamic looking shots in order to show the most energy possible. As I've said before, this is not an instructional DVD so you didn't get to see everything that led up to the so called "bad form" sets. If you could have seen the entire workout then maybe those final sets would make more sense when seen as Dave's final effort to affect every single muscle fiber possible.

Part of the problem is that most BB vids are unedited or only lightly edited. RTB2's workout clips are highly condensed and are meant to give a flavor of the workout, not the the workout in its entirety. Of course I'm going to pick the later, more dynamic sets, rather then the earlier sets in which he is using better form. There's more sweat, more grunting and more intensity.

These clips do not fully represent what RTB2 is all about and I kind of regret that Matt posted them because I think that they have overshadowed the interviews we have just done for him in which he asks some very probing, intelligent questions and which touch upon much more interesting topics than the form of excercises, IMO.

Don't be so proud of yourself.. if the form in the video is any indication of what your bench press form is then by no means should that count as any one rep.
just push some weight!
