Which equipment is better out of these 2 ??
« on: June 23, 2007, 10:32:08 AM »
I want to buy one of this, im still not sure which one, what do you think is better for building muscle?  I dont have a spotter so the smith would be more safe, but free weights are also great.  the first one costs 175 euro, the smith 500 euro.

I would go with the free weight set up as I realize that I am lazy when it comes to maintaining things.  Inexpensive smith machines are notorious for problems with binding and bad bearing later on down the road.  If you are mechanically inclined and don't mind performing quarterly maintanence on it a smith machine is a very versatile piece of equipment to have.  With the quasi power rack set up your looking at you can pretty much do it all as well.

Theyre different but youll need a free standing rack for more movements the smith will limit you all though there is this awesome smith machine, that I have NEVER seen anywhere else, that allows you to do a free movement too! It has an extra attachment so when you move the weight it also moves horizontally its fucking amazing. If anything id recommend that if you can find it its safe and you can do whatever you want.. its tougher than the free standing too because it forces you to balance the weight more actually.

ive seen video of that, it looks stupid, and its very very expensive.  i also have all the movements on the free weight rack, its also made for benching,it got front handles with pins. so thats a big plus

That squat cage is probably the most versatile out of the lot. Also get circular plates rather than the polygon ones in that weight set.

This one looks the best.  Get some bumper plates if you are going to do heavy lunges.

Hmmm. The first one has more room for your hatchet collection.  :D

Don't forget that you'll probably need a pretty big ash tray for your home gym.

And a hatchet holster for "Old Choppy".
