Speak for yourself. I'm not scared to let anyone know i'm into bodybuilding, I actually tell people they should get into it (natural) and watch the olympia with me when it's on. I'm never accused of being gay because I'm obviously straight and have agirlfriend. Not to mentipn I look at women like their pieces of meat all the time.

I feel bad for you man I bet you're scared to admit you like certain music because others don't. Don't worry about other peoples opinion so much. In the end nothing matters anyways.

your problem is that you are an idiot and have horrible reading comprehension..... the thread asked why is bodybuilding not as popular as it could be (in the general population) NOT why i don't follow bodybuilding. I'm not homophobic because no man no matter how muscled and how jacked will turn me away from women... so following bodybuilding for me is no problem and me telling people i do is no problem either.

BODYBUILDING IS NOT POPULAR BECAUSE THE AVERAGE AMERICAN FRAT BOY IS AFRAID HIS FRIENDS WILL CALL HIM GAY IF HE WATCHES IT ON TV WHILE INSIDE HE KNOWS ALL THE BODYBUILDERS NAMES AND WOULD DIE TO LOOK LIKE DEX/WOLFE/OLD CUTLER. WHATEVER.... AMERICANS ARE INTENSLY HOMOPHOBIC.

you are also confident enough in your own heterosexuality to not have a problem with bodybuilding. good for you. now go work on your reading skills moron.

it also doesn't help that bodybuilding isn't a test of athleticism or skill, just parading around nearly nude for men to judge. plus have you actually seen a show? jeezus it's boring. that's why WSM can have marathons, because it's fast, exciting, and an actual contest. who the fuck wants to sit and watch 23 guys post for four hours?

Good Point ! I'll be attending my Girlfriend's Bodybuilding Show this Weekend in Chicago ... I LOVE supporting Her and LOVE seeing Her on Stage, but GODDAMN !! Bodybuilding Shows are VERY LONG and VERY BORING ! Not only that, but there's NOTHING ( for the most part ) but Egotistical Idiots in the Audience, quite literally, SCREAMING at the top of their Lungs Bullshit things ... very, VERY annoying to say the least. My Favorite part is usually the Guest Posing ( except when it's Victor Martinez Guest Posing ) AND the part where me and my Girlfriend leave to PIG OUT !!  :D

Imagine the popularity bodybuilding would have without the internet.  It would be even lower than what it is now.

yeah def amazing. better than cutler.

to bad rory fucked up his dieting so many times tho!

he lost too much muscle when dieting  + came in smooth too many competitions

rory overdid his training and diet....way too much!

I know for a fact it wasn't his diet, there were other reasons for him coming in smooth.

yeah, funny how that works.

anyway, bodybuilding wasn't much more popular when the guys did look like that. even then it was basically riding off of arnold. the problem is that while arnie was a freak, he was 235 and 6'2". huge, but human. he could be in a movie at that size and just look like a very big dude. even guys like bob and rory are at a freakish level of size that just look like a rhino to most people. don't forget that the male ideal went away from the arnie/vandamme mold a while ago.

it also doesn't help that bodybuilding isn't a test of athleticism or skill, just parading around nearly nude for men to judge. plus have you actually seen a show? jeezus it's boring. that's why WSM can have marathons, because it's fast, exciting, and an actual contest. who the fuck wants to sit and watch 23 guys post for four hours?

You mean that bodybuilding doesn't take time, effort (physically and mentally), MONEY? Bodybuilding is the only sport in which everyday is a test, one of the most beautiful sports out there.

As for the "parade", athletes show the crowd what they have worked for (although judging is fucked on personal opinion and not on true criteria)...

I think what he is getting at is that to win a bodybuilding show it doesn't require any real physical skill or effort (obviously posing requires some effort, but you know what i mean).

If you look at the 2004 Olympia, that format, i feel, was good. The winner of the Olympia came down to the winner of that last pose. Definietly gave it a sense of competition.
No doubt about it...

not anymore popular to be honest.....

let me tell you the #1 reason bodybuilding isn't as popular as it could/should be.... HOMOPHOBIA.

people are afraid that if they follow bodybuilding (looking and comparing men's near-naked physiques) others will see them as gay.

that and the drugs.

Ye, the public in general still thinks that tested sports are clean. Such a joke!

Bodybuilding competition is like a car show...

You work all year long in the gym/garage on your physique/car and prepare it for a show. Then when it's showtime you just put your physique/car out there for others to admire and vote for.

Alot of ppl like nice cars and sometimes have them as wallpaper on their computer screen or hanging on their walls. Many see a car as an object to admire, while a physique can be something sexual.

When i see a nice car i think: it would be nice to have.
When i see a great BBer i think: i want to look like that. Others might want to play with that.
No one sees a nice car and thinks, wow i want to have sex with that car. Then you also have the fact that most ppl don't want to look like bodybuilders.

The majority of adults think shaving your chest is gay.
Shaving your legs is even worse than that.

IF people could get past that part of the whole thing, you're still going to have a hard time convincing people that paying money to stare at men in thongs and comment on how good they look isn't gay.

That's the facts.

the guy overdid his training like so many guys in the 80s.

1. It had nothing to do with his training, I was right there with him.

2. No, it wasn't the diet, Jeff Feliciano had him dialed in.

3. Yes, he could have been ALOT better, top 5 Olympia material easily.

4. He lost muscle and was smooth because of his "extra curricular activity's"

Then swimmers, sprinters, marathon runners and cyclists must be gay then.

Yes, if I saw a man commenting on how good a swimmer looked in his speedo, I would assume he was gay.

Cyclists have been gay since the invention of the auto.  Anyone who would choose to use an inferior means of travel is clearly a fag.

no because straight guys are sooooo scared of other people accusing them of being queer that the will automatically blow off bodybuilding as gay...

how many young guys lift in the USA... MILLIONS and MILLIONS.... how many will actually admit to follow bodybuilding.... a fraction of that. the gay issue...

i'm not saying bodybuilding is gay.... i'm saying people are scared to admit they follow bodybuilding because then they will look gay to others.

I got ya and that is true in same cases, no doubt. I never got the whole excessive homophobic thing.
I mean c'mon, the worst thing that could happne is the guy wants to blow ya LOL.
Plus, with a lot of gay guys in the gym , you don't have to worry about them hiting on any of the babes, it lowers the odds in your favor.

It has nothing to do with being homophobic.  It's the fact that building muscle is hard and it is much easier to sit around eating and drinking while watching a game.
