Bodybuilding competition is like a car show...

You work all year long in the gym/garage on your physique/car and prepare it for a show. Then when it's showtime you just put your physique/car out there for others to admire and vote for.

Alot of ppl like nice cars and sometimes have them as wallpaper on their computer screen or hanging on their walls. Many see a car as an object to admire, while a physique can be something sexual.

When i see a nice car i think: it would be nice to have.
When i see a great BBer i think: i want to look like that. Others might want to play with that.
No one sees a nice car and thinks, wow i want to have sex with that car. Then you also have the fact that most ppl don't want to look like bodybuilders.

But what does it mean if you have hot butt sex with a bodybuilder in the back seat of a car that was just featured in a car show? ???

your problem is that you are an idiot and have horrible reading comprehension..... the thread asked why is bodybuilding not as popular as it could be (in the general population) NOT why i don't follow bodybuilding. I'm not homophobic because no man no matter how muscled and how jacked will turn me away from women... so following bodybuilding for me is no problem and me telling people i do is no problem either.

BODYBUILDING IS NOT POPULAR BECAUSE THE AVERAGE AMERICAN FRAT BOY IS AFRAID HIS FRIENDS WILL CALL HIM GAY IF HE WATCHES IT ON TV WHILE INSIDE HE KNOWS ALL THE BODYBUILDERS NAMES AND WOULD DIE TO LOOK LIKE DEX/WOLFE/OLD CUTLER. WHATEVER.... AMERICANS ARE INTENSLY HOMOPHOBIC.

you are also confident enough in your own heterosexuality to not have a problem with bodybuilding. good for you. now go work on your reading skills moron.
LOL seems as though I made you mad. Have a cookie it might cheer you up. Asshole. hahahaha. My comprehension is great. The thing is, I think the only reason that you thought of this is because it's what your dumbass thought up and has a personal problem with. Nobody else in the world i've met is homophobic. Nobody is scared to admit they like bodybuilding, they just don't like it. It's not because they're scared people will think they're gay (as your retarded theory suggests)

I think there are a couple of problems.

First off if people who are into the "sport" are complaining about how bad the physiques look then what about American Joe who doesn't know beans about it.

Secondly I think bodybuilding should capitalize on the truth that "SEX SELLS".  You guys think it is just homos that like to see half naked muscular men all oiled up.  Hello!  That's what women go to strip clubs and to Chippendales for (Even though a LOT of those guys are gay)

We have a couple of competitors at my gym and they ALWAYS get a lot of attention from the female persuasion.  Some have even attended the shows.  So this ain't all about gay boys.  I think that argument is null and void.

There is something wrong with the physiques onstage.  That is the biggest problem I see.

the question is. what about bodybuilding is NOT strange for the general people.

i mean from the thongs and oiling up to the dancing on stage like a ballerina to music...

also bodybuilders are very intimmidating for most people. and like said all the drugs in the sport doesn't make it better..

well the list can be made looooonnng  :)

I beg to differ.  http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=70610.0

I suppose you think nipples, a woman’s ass or a man’s penis is “gross” and kissing “yucky” too?  How sexually immature you are.  :-[

I agree and their has been a huge boom of pro pro FIGURE shows as a result. The number of pro figure events held with either NPC shows or as part of an IFBB pro event are in the higher numbers than pro bodybuilding now.
The men's show should reward guys like Dexter, Darrem and Ronnie Rockell.
David Henry is the ideal kind of physique that is massive but has ideal shape and balance.
Sheer mass beyond what is needed to look muscular should not be considered the ideal by the IFBB pro judges.
Look at how great Ronnie looked at 256!
Drug testing would not be an issue if freakish mass were not an advantage to winning shows.

the competitors looked like this?

In my opinion, those physiques are what bodybuilding should be all about. Bob had some incredible thigh sweep at this best. Rory was good but Bob Paris has one of the all time great asthetic physiques.

Cocain, speed, crosstops.

Interesting. I never knew that about Rory.

When I was training with Steve and Samir, Steve really got into Crystal Meth. He was supplying some of the top guys. He gave some to Samir and me once. I absolutely HATED it and never touched it again. It made me my workout was intense but SLOPPY and I was so jittery and didn't sleep that night.

We all know that speed is what messed Mentzer all up.
