I disagree about your post that it depends on the medical school you go....not at all!!  If you want to practice in the US you have to pass the licensure exams (USMLE steps I, II, III) and ALL medicals schools follow a general core of classes to prepare each student for those exams.  So whatever med school you go to, Harvard med or Drew med school in So. Central....you STILL have to pass the same exams to practice, the rest is title.

Ah yes....very true, but that's my point, the elite are separated by their SCORES, NOT by which school they went to 

In other words you can go to Harvard and get a 190 on Step 1....or go to podunk and score a 260...it's ultimately up to the student.  It's been said over and over that the hardest part about med school, is getting in.

Whatever suits you bro. Average newcomer therapists makes about 37k. But i guess as you mentioned if  you "want to make money" it's as easy snapping your finger and start day trading + real estate at night

in fact, making money really isnt that tough alex. it takes time, effort, creativity, and foresight. but with all of those things it is quite possible. as for the real estate thing...for me, i can start out rather quickly because of my family. so i am lucky in that regard.

dude do you even have a degree? an undergrad? if not, stop talking about phd's and shit and finish your fucking first degree. have you wrote the mcat? if not, dont talk about med school. i know many brilliant people who couldnt get in. everyone makes it sound so easy.

Do what you like but while at school, but have a plan.

I have many friends in my Alumni who had a hard wake up after graduating in "Art History", "Midieval Studies" and "Gericatric Psycology". Not bashing, just think you need to be realistic.

Howie...I can almost gaurantee you that your sister is NOT both an MD and a DO.  That's pretty much exactly the same degree!!!  Do you mean she started at an allopathic (MD) school and transferred to a osteopathic (DO) school???

Also, if you've got a master's in physics...I'd say you're smarter than about 70% of medical students/doctors out there.   Yes, getting the MD/DO is the most rigourous of the degrees out there, but does not mean you have to be the smartest!!!  On average, engineers are much smarter than doctors.  Doc's ONLY have to memorize memorize memorize!

congrats on your degree...you didn't have to post it online.  Anyone with something looking like education could've been able to tell that you were a physician from your various posts.

And I do agree with you concerning "mdpitt"  I wouldn't consider his ten years of residency/fellowship in surgery education....it's more of learning a specific practice/trade.

Ok, thanks for the compliments on my possible brainpower with my grad work in physics. I went to Miami of Ohio for that. My sis went to New Engalnd college of Osteropathic medicine near Portland Maine to get her first medical degree a D.O, then sat for some exams and did some additional residency work to apply and get her MD so she could do more stuff.
Oh on the way to my Ed D in science ed I got a 2nd masters in Ed Admin via having to take many core classes before the dissertation. That was tedious but not to bad. My research was in how discovery based learning in the physical sciences is the most effective. I was part of a multi state research project known as Project Discovery in the mid west and LaSIP in La.  I think I can find the link of one of my published research deals. I will post it if  can find it.

real estate is very tough esp. for a new-comer with no client base or name recognition. but there is alot of money to be made right now...even in this "bear market"

Yes it is tedious, my wife ( well ex and now steady gf) is a national board cert psycholgist recognized by the APA.
It was a whole lot of time and effort and hrs and hrs and hrs, trust me she earned it.

actually, you choose a major and a minor field, e.g. a major field in international relations and a minor in comparative politics.  you specialize in two subfields within your major field (e.g. international conflict & international political economy) and one subfield in your minor field (e.g. comparative mass behavior)

I have worked adjuct at a couple colleges during the summer , but, for me the basic pay is HIGHER and provides a tenure track by teaching high school, no kidding.
In my school district the base pay for a PhD or Ed D is in the 80's k per year after 20 yrs experience.
Small college teaching pays about 1/2 that, seriously.You can make more $$ if you get grants for research however. But, I can extra $$ for summer school or after school programs as well.
We hired a chemistry teacher last yr who had her PhD from Ga Tech!
If you want to have normal life with time for hobbys and / or family , it is tough being a research prof for the first several years.They don't have to deal with 16 yr old discipline issues however

In many profession related to academia the starting salary is not that great but gets better every year unlike a lot of fields. In public Ed the big $$ is in administration. However as a teacher you get tenure and summers off and have plenty of paid vacation LOL. It is a secure , stable , enjoyable career for those that like school.
Life is secure but one will never get really wealthy by a career in any educational setting, unlike sales , business, law , etc.
