I always here these "personal trainers" giving the shittiest advice at the gym.  Now these are the guys that are eating an Arby's sandwich while they're training someone.  Some dude litteraly was holding a styrofoam container of deep fried soul food munching away while he "trained" his client.  Some of the things I hear them say is absurd.

I heard this one trainer tell this chunky girl that she needs to take in about 6-8 scoops of protein a day along with her regular meals.  I just had to laugh under my breath.  This poor girl was already probably eating more calories than she needs yet is being told to injest about 150 extra grams of protein.   She barely touched any weights either.

I usually want to correct them and jump in but I don't want to make enemies at the gym with the staff.  I don't have many gym options in my area so getting black listed wouldn't be a smart move.

That's why I do.  The trainers wouldnt listen anyway so its just a waste of time to try and correct them.

this actually works. they have enough protein that they can't eat much else. (bad food especially)
and then they start to see an initial drop in weight, and kickstarts a bit of self-motivation.

granted, they have to have a good clean whey or isolate...no MUSCLE MILK bullshit..
and take the shakes in water or skim milk...
i've seen it done before.
eventually limit it to 4 scoops a day (2shakes) with 4 meals move on to a less powdered diet. :P

it's common sense.. fat people love milkshakes. protein shakes taste good, and get better every year. mostly fat free and carb free.

Just keep to yourself and focus on your own training.

I'm a trainer and a gym owner so when I would hear the trainers that give the knowledgeable/caring ones a bad rap running their mouths with horrible advice, I would usually keep quiet, but I resent it. I might approach the victim later and correct them so they don't waste their time or get hurt. In my gym it's different.  I fired a trainer who was an independent contractor for lack of knowledge and demonstrating very poor form that would easily result in an injury eventually.

We have about 2 good ones at my gym and 10 bad ones.  A bunch of the trainers have people doing their exercises while standing on a BOSU ball.  I'm talking shoulder presses, squats, curls, you name it. That shit looks dangerous as hell.

It's really a shame what's happened to the training business. Back in the early 1990s, when I worked as a trainer, it wasn't about stability balls and core exercises, it was about banging your female clients :'(

Do you ever give them the "stare"  >:(

If I had your size, I would do "the walk" right over to them and give them a little 'tude.  8)

Yea..we all go to gyms where the PTs walk around eating deep fried chicken as they train their clients  ::)

I would worry about your own workout rather than go out of your way to listen to their conversations and then rush onto GB to sound superior. Seriously though..try correcting their advice and interrupting their private conversation, see how gratefully your thoughts are received. Try it  ;)

Fuckin' Christ! What are these guys thinkin'? i don't even want to imagine what your knees and lower back endure if you do this for a year. As for correcting personal trainers, I just keep my mouth shut. I feel sorry for the guy who pays to get some serious input and instead gets some shitty or dangerous advices. You can't expect them to know that they're getting the wrong infos. But if I see people on their own (preferably a female I must admit), I might say something if I think they're about to cause themselves some serious injury.

its not eavesdropping or a man on mission to sabotage trainer's session or something like that.. i usually have headphones on but on the days that i forgot to charge my mp3 player and dont have my headphones on, i hear that shit all the time. for some reason they feel the need to speak ALOT louder when they train people, so its not hard to hear what they are saying if they are training within 10 ft of you.... sure you can chose to ignore what your hearing...

When you're sitting at a machine and the fucking trainer has someone right in front of you running around the gym with a medicine ball held straight up in the air, you kind of can't avoid seeing it even if you're the most intense tapout wonder in the world

well, whenever I see those balls they use, i look the other way...i predict in the not far off future, those balls will be abandoned as viable training implements...be interesting to see what  joelocal thinks...

I was training someone a few years back and some Vince Basile like dumbass at the gym tried to correct me in from of my client (Basic nonsense about stretching with toning bands)  After I was finished, I went back and chewed him out for all it was worth including telling him that he was old to be wearing Abrocrombie & Fitch clothes and that if he ever interfered with my job then he'll get some free dental work.

Regardless as to whether a personal trainer is a complete dumbbass or not, its best to mind your own damn business.

You bet your ass I did.  As a trainer, you're responsible for your clients health and safety and not anyone else.  Its also inappropriate and rude.  A lot of gyms have a specific protocol in regards to training clients.
