Having had over 90% of my cartilage removed from both knees I wish I had something like that. When you can lean back and the knees don't go pass your toes in the full squat position it really takes the pressure off the knee joint.

It is always a challenge to make a machine that effectively and safely works the thighs. The best machine I have used in the Nautilus Duo Squat that I modified. The best test of how a machine feels is to load it up. For example, Cybex made what seemed like a nice horizontal leg press but when you loaded it up it put too much stress on the knees so I don't think it was a good machine.

The Bear Squat doesn't seem to be quite right. You can see the angle of the pads at the shoulder changes at the bottom. I also dislike machines with chains because they are awful to work with, get dirty and even stretch. The calf movement seems okay. I can see that the footprint and size is acceptable.

Not a leg press.

We had one back in college and tested on it every spring ( 96-99)

Isn't very good for growth and doesn't tax the muscles nearly as much as as Barbell squats.

Powertec makes a really good angle squat machine.  The price is right too.  I tried one in the store but I bought the more expensive Tuff Stuff version.  It works great but now I think the cheaper Powertec version was a better movement.

That is basically the same movement I get by doing squats on a decline/situp bench. I set the bench at a nice level, then stand at the front of it, facing towards the other end. I then set my legs in with the foot rest sitting behind my knee and a little lower. I put about 4x45 plates on the bench to keep it from flipping over. Then? I just squat. If I want resistance I just grab a plate or dumbbell.

Dear god...I figured a 5 second picture would explain it better. I'm not sure...not sure.

 the angle is just a bit sharper, but they have had these front squat machines around since the early 90s. the bear model has a shit setup with the plates stacked up on each other, no need for that nonsense.

Deep squat with the bar low on your back, quat with the bar high on your shoulders, halfe heavy squat, front squat, box squat, 1/4 squat, lunges, stiff deadlift, deadlift, sumodeadlift, jumping etc etc...

for a bodybuilder it has its place.

allows you to focus on quads exclusivly instead of having to think of balancing and keeping form.

Gym machines are for intelligent bodybuilders and fitness people. If I had my way I would toss all the free weights in the ocean. This free weights vs machines is a really silly argument. Gyms exist because of machines. Don't forget that. The barbell is almost dead except among dumbbells. Sure you can get a workout with them but they are not very good tools. I don't care what some musclemen say. Science will eventually prove that machines are superior.
