It is OK for a baby to get raped  and killed because they are sinners by nature and thus will inevitably become sinners by choice as soon as they are able to do so.

Great logic retard
Agreed Che.  This is the worst types of explanation for this I can think of.  One of the main reasons arguing is not worth it.

Jesus taught his disciples that his kingdom was not of this world. They believed him to be the Messiah. So if the Messiah gave orders not to interfere, I don't see a quandry in not interfering. Those who try and save their life, will lose it.. etc etc..

But still... in order to wash away your sins(selfish and irresponsible) the slow deadly torture of a fellow man is required. It's pretty messed up if you ask me.

I researched this same question for several hours the other night because I had asked it.  None of the answers I found would satisfy the men and women that brought their lifeless children out of the tsunami waters.  Why did my sister's fiance unexpectedly die?  Why was her faith strengthened because of it?  Why does God allow any natural disaster and then claim that he's a loving all-powerful God?  How can earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, etc....exist and kill innocent hundreds/thousands/millions?  Why was I allowed to almost die in mid-August last year?  Why can't my God-fearing parents overcome their constant financial battles?  Why was my sister's friend's child born with deformaties?  Why did God allow cancer to take the life of best friend's mother a couple years back?  Why does God allow my grandmother to slowly forget who I am?  Why did God allow a young mother to leave her 6-month old baby in a locked car to die of heatstroke?  Why did God allow my uncle to die just shortly after he came to know Christ as savior?  Why did God allow 200,000 to die in the 2009 tsunami?  How many hundreds/thousands/millions came to know Christ because of these tragedies?  How many unseen, unknown loving purposes of God were fulfilled because of these tragedies?  I don't know, but I do know that God has done a wonderful, loving work in my life and that his grace is absolutely sufficient for all of us that accept him.

For me, what makes more sense than;

A god exists who loves us and answers our prayers, knows the number of hairs on our head but..___________ (put in above questions...

Is this;

Shit happens.... there are laws of nature, probability etc and good things happen to bad people, bad things happen to good people on a pretty even basis.

Otherwise, I'm left trying to explain how a loving, caring, prayer answering god exists while little Jimmy is getting raped by his uncle every other night for the last 3 years and god does nothing about it..

Ah, I see your point.. Yes, it is barbaric. It was written in barbaric times when people sacrificed animals to their gods. That a God needs a system in order keep people from hell is silly in my opinion anyway

Just to test the waters, I posted a scripture on facebook yesterday. Pretty straight forward from Exodus 20:21-22 where God says you can beat your male of female slave with a rod, and if it dies you will be punished, but if it recovers you won't, because it is your property..

Obviously a pretty fucked up rule by a god in anyones book. BUT..... my christian friends fell over themselves trying to explain it away... It was pretty sad.. I ended up deleted the post . But the point was, they are all ok with the typical biblical scripture post that shows God in a good light, but post something from their bible that shows the monster side and it's a crime. 90% of Christians haven't bothered to read their bible cover to cover in my opinion, based on their lack of knowldege of most of the Old testament and much of the new

The second man is an atheist. He uses the issue of suffering to somehow make an illogical leap into the philosophy that there is no God. The thought that the whole of creation, with its flowers, its birds, the sun, the moon, the animal kingdom, the beauty of the seasons, the incredible variety of succulent fruit trees, etc., all happened by accident. The notion that such reasoning borders on insanity doesn't enter his unthinking and sin-loving mind. He doesn't bother to humbly study the warning of Scripture. Instead, he exalts himself above the mind of his Creator, and condescendingly becomes a critic of the Word of God. He maintains it is full of errors and therefore cant be trusted.

Coach, how good is your understanding of the scientific view on the creation of the universe and life?

Do you know what a Goldilocks zone is? Do you know where the most abundant biomass is located on earth(hint: a place that your bible would know absolutely nothing about)? Do you know anything about the formation of amino acids? Do you understand basic Newtonian and quantum physics? Do you really understand the basic theory of evolution?

The list goes on and on obviously, but I've never seen you display the slightest knowledge of these things. You should be a little bit more humble when saying that science is a load of bullocks until you at least have a basic understanding of it.

If you can be bothered, please rate yourself on a scale from 1 to 10 in how well you think you understand science, 10 being a professor in natural sciences and 1 being a redneck with downs syndrome. I'd put myself at a 6. I'm just curios what your self-perception is here.

Bible says God created evil..
Imagine a world without evil...without an example for those to NOT follow.
Imagine everybody all happy and singing Smurfette's "La-La" song...people would be offing themselves due to bordem. Evil is needed in this world, the wicked have to be played off the righteous, and vice versa. Just as a world could not exist with pure evil...man would not be able to create it's civilization, everybody would have killed each other off. Hardship, evil deeds and the fight against them fuel man to be better. So, in a sense, The Devil serves a purpose, and is serving God, a way of stoking the flames of man's survival, an quality control system...

Good thread here!

 I wonder if you took a current survey on people with a good education vs. non educated people.  What percentage would believe in god and what percentage wouldn't. Mentioned this in another thread, not one peer or colleague of mine that has a university degree, or more affluent, even more cultured/worldly, believes in god.  I don't know one person.

I've taken time to look into a few different religions out of curiosity and maybe to try and get a sense of identity through it.   My conclusion was that it's unreal that people believe in this.  I just can't believe the masses have fallen for it for so long.

Wasn't Buddha born out of a slit in his mother's belly? Why do they fear the vagina so badly?

 Briefly and one that I found the most appealing to me.  Really really interesting.  The Buddhism "philosophy" is very cool and essentially concepts I live by.

Good call!

the "core" concepts are fairly bang on with what I think is right from wrong.  Developing yourself mentally, virtue, good conduct, morality etc... Probably a few I don't agree with but a lot of them I do.

It is, but it has one fatal flaw. Eventually someone, somewhere will either want you dead or try to kill or hurt you or your family...you can't shrug that away....
You can see it as a "difference of philosophy" and fuck that person up...
But that whole "test to the pathway of enlightenment"---how the fuck are you gonna continue your path if someone is gonna kill you? WTF, do you get a "enlightenment coin" to put in the "Life Arcade" slot to continue? Fuck that shit...
At least with Islam, Judaism, Christianity, I get the "fuck you up card" and god says, "hey guy, you mess with the bull, you get the horns", other than that, Buddhism seems to be okay....

So basically what you're saying is anyone with a unversity degree doesn't believe in God? What about the people that have degrees that do believe? This really the liberal elitist mentality. It no secret that most unversities teach with a very liberal leaning, they make no bones about it. Those same unversities also point their agends at non-creationaism. That was a weak arguement X-factor.
