I was in a group of 30 people when Tyson was fighting
Holyfield the 1st time. I had little doubt Holyfield would win
because of the wars he had been through with superior
fighters. I was the only one in the room who thought HF would
win and I was very vocal about it and took some crap for it.
Ali in his prime was incredibly agile and fast. Tyson would win
if Ali didn't have such a good chin. Ali would frustrate Tyson by taking his best punch
and then slowly dissect him. This I have little doubt about.
Tyson didn't fight that great of competition, whereas the 70's was stacked in the heavyweights.
(Tyson fought a guy named Bruce Seldon who was built like a tank but had a glass draw
as one example.)
Please watch at 29 seconds and remember this was in the 15th round.
Frazier hits him with his famous left, right on the button.
Watch how fast Ali gets up from a punch that would have put
most heavyweights to sleep.
(One other thing to add - Ali had been inactive for close to 2 years when he took this
fight and is one reason he had trouble in this fight. We probably didn't get to see Ali's
true prime because he was banned for not accepting the draft against a war he didn't
believe in.
