Ali vs Tyson
« on: July 21, 2012, 09:10:50 AM »
Both in their prime...

..who wins?

I'm thinking if Ali can last more than 3 rounds, then Tyson gets eaten alive. But one can't discount Tyson's awesome power. Ali has to take him into the deep waters of later rounds.
The answer is "yes".

Gotta go with Tyson.
Dont think Ali would have ever fought anyone with the combo of speed, power, and aggression Tyson displayed.
Then again, Im not a boxing expert, so I could be wrong.

I was in a group of 30 people when Tyson was fighting
Holyfield the 1st time. I had little doubt Holyfield would win
because of the wars he had been through with superior
fighters. I was the only one in the room who thought HF would
win and I was very vocal about it and took some crap for it.
Ali in his prime was incredibly agile and fast. Tyson would win
if Ali didn't have such a good chin. Ali would frustrate Tyson by taking his best punch
and then slowly dissect him. This I have little doubt about.
Tyson didn't fight that great of competition, whereas the 70's was stacked in the heavyweights.
(Tyson fought a guy named Bruce Seldon who was built like a tank but had a glass draw
as one example.)
Please watch at 29 seconds and remember this was in the 15th round.
Frazier hits him with his famous left, right on the button.
Watch how fast Ali gets up from a punch that would have put
most heavyweights to sleep.
(One other thing to add - Ali had been inactive for close to 2 years when he took this
fight and is one reason he had trouble in this fight. We probably didn't get to see Ali's
true prime because he was banned for not accepting the draft against a war he didn't
believe in.

Wouldn't even be a contest.

Tyson at half fitness would school Ali.

just as buster douglas beat tyson in japan with his journey mans jab, Ali would dissect tyson with the jab and keep tyson back. ali would then deliver 1-2 combo's. ali wins by unanimous discision.

before the fight, ali, would've mentally destroyed tyson and not been intimidated by him at all. then, on the actual fight... ali, would've  jabbed him to death.

Jesus Christ....Ali fought a prime George Foreman, at the height of George's devastating reign over the HW division, and knocked him out.

So what does Tyson have that Big George didn't?

Ali in his prime would have put a clinic on Mike Tyson's head.

People forget how big and fast Ali was.....

I'm not even sure Tyson could beat a prime Frazier, and I was a Tyson fan.

Mike hit hard, but I don't think he hit harder than Foreman or Ernie Shavers.

Ali would KO Tyson late in the fight after frustrating with his jab and hand speed Tyson in the earlier rounds !!!
Ali in his prime was in 60' before he went to prison when he had the best footwork, after the prison term that robbed him 3 and half years of his prime Ali was still the GREATEST HEAVYWEIGHT OF ALL TIME ( I said the greatest "heavyweight" of all time because the GREATEST P4P BOXER OF ALL TIME WAS RAY SUGAR ROBINSON ) but lost some of his footwork he had in the previous years but he still defeated boxer better than Tyson like a prime George Foreman (not the fat old bald middleaged Foreman version of the 90').
I would add also that a prime George Foreman, back in the 70', would destroy and KO Tyson early in the fight!!!
Nobody beat Ali in his prime, at least over 3 fights trilogy!!! ;)

Hahaha, Ali is the greatest ever.

He's like the Ronnie of boxing; theoretically someone could be better than him but in real life no one stands a chance  8)

I never said he was the hardest hitter - I said combo of speed, power, and aggression.

Early on, Tyson had most of his opponents whipped before the fight even started.  Nobody could be Ali at head games.

Tyson would have bitten his own ear off during weigh-in because of Ali's taunting.
