I never said he was the hardest hitter - I said combo of speed, power, and aggression.

No, he wasn't the hardest HVWT puncher.  But after losing to Tyson, Larry Holmes said that he didn't hit that hard but was accurate.  He said this as two horn-like lumps were growing on his upper forehead.  One of Tyson's most remarkable skills was his accuracy.

What Douglass did to a slightly declining Tyson is what a prime Ali would have done to a prime Tyson.  Ali's ability to endure the hardest punches would have been key, though.

Better defense ,better  technique overall and  twice as fast .

Well if you can't defend against Buster Douglas and an aging Evander Holyfield, I'm guessing a prime Ali is going to give you a LITTLE trouble.

Ali...Ali had a tremendous jab, vastly underrated power and an awesome ability to take a punch.  Tyson was a bully with no heart.  Tyson woud eat several punches to land one...Ali would sneer at him like he sneered at Foreman when George  hit him and Tyson would have started looking for a way out.

Tyson  got robbed he really won that fight ,  after his incarceration  he wasn't remotely close to being a prime Tyson.

Ali wasn't thought of as a knockout boxer but a documentary
I saw made me realize how many fights he won by KO or TKO.
Before he was stripped of his title 23 of his 29 fights were
won by KO or TKO and of course he was undefeated at that time.
He missed 3 years that probably would have been his prime
because although he was still agile and quick, he was never
as agile and quick as he was pre - army enrollment refusal.

Ali.

He could take the damage, was super fast, had a tremendous jab, great power, was mentally strong and had a lot of heart.

As was mentioned earlier, Frazier did beat Ali once but I also think Frazier would have beaten Tyson as well.

People forget how big and fast Ali was.....

I'm not even sure Tyson could beat a prime Frazier, and I was a Tyson fan.

Mike hit hard, but I don't think he hit harder than Foreman or Ernie Shavers.

In his prime, Tyson was just too strong. Early round knockout.

You realize that even when he was a decrepit old man, Ali was never knocked out...shit, he was only knocked down four times and one of those came when Wepner stepped on his foot to trip him.  Joe Frazier's left hook...a far more damaging punch than anything in Tyson's arsenal put Ali down briefly after 14.5 rounds of boxing.  But Tyson...a guy who got his ass kicked by a blown up Light heavy...he would KO Ali in an early round?

Fuck that....

X2

Tyson didnt train much for the buster fight, and didnt take him serious. If his original coach custamado or whatever his name was didnt die, mike would have kept improving even more.

Mike prime prior to jail = greatest Heavy weight champ ever.

just as buster douglas beat tyson in japan with his journey mans jab, Ali would dissect tyson with the jab and keep tyson back. ali would then deliver 1-2 combo's. ali wins by unanimous discision.

I totally agree. Tyson was a product of weak competition. Douglas manhandled him. People remember that fight for the infamous slow count, but if you actually watch that fight, you'd see tyson getting his ass raped the whole fight. It wasn't even close.

Tyson would fold like a lawn chair if you took him past 5 rounds.  His early reputation was larger than his boxing talent.

Tyson was a one of a kind HW, due to him being short for a HW, his defense, and ability to break the distance very quickly. Once Kevin Rooney was gone, he collapsed. But even at his best, Tyson didn't fight such great fighters; Holmes, Spinks, Berbick were way past their prime (Berbick was never such a great fighter anyway) and a one-handed Tony Tucker took him the whole distance. Bonecrusher Smith also went the whole 12 rounds with him and he was just good enough to carry Ali or Frazier's jock strap.

The managers of Tyson's career were masterful, had him fight tomato cans for a perfect record with all KO's, built the aura.

Mitch Blood Green went the distance with Tyson, and we know what a great heavyweight he was :(

So it is laughable to think that Ali could not take Tyson's early round assault.

Did Spinks even weigh enough  to qualify as HW?

If Tony Tucker could go the distance, and Buster Douglas knock him out, Ali would make him into salad. Tyson had trouble with tall guys with great jabs-Ali's was the best and he was 6'3"- game over.
