The James Gandolfini thread is a perfect example. People acting foolish writing bittersweet eulogies and acting like you knew him. REALITY: you didn't know him and he wouldn't have given 2 fucks if you died. To celebrities, you are the knuckleheads who pester them for autographs while they are trying to dine at restaurants. You are the simpletons who run up to them telling them how much their shows and movies have meant to your life. In short, celebrities DON'T LIKE YOU. So you can pull your tongue out of their cold dead assholes.

x2, same for athletes.

best to grow up and have no heroes, believe in yourself

Notice how these losers with high body fat levels and 0 money saved will worship the exploits of pro athletes. These "fans" are emotionally tied into whether their home team wins or loses. They have accomplished very little in life but take pride in what some jock getting paid millions does. Meanwhile the pro athlete will trade jerseys to the highest bidder. They think the "fans" are foolish.

Young Calogero: Bill Mazeroski, I hate him. He made Mickey Mantle cry. The papers said the Mick cried.

Sonny: Mickey Mantle? That's what you're upset about? Mantle makes $100,000 a year. How much does your father make? If your dad ever can't pay the rent and needs money, go ask Mickey Mantle. See what happens. Mickey Mantle don't care about you. Why care about him?

Calogero: [narrating] After that, I never felt the same way about the Yankees.

I think it has more to do about the age of the athelete/celebrity. If Sean Connery dies, he will be celebrated for living a long life. Nobody deserves to die in they're 50's  :-\  If guys like Tom Brady, or The Rock die, I will be genuinely saddened.
