Are you illiterate? You're acting as if someone here said benching and strict pressing are part of their training cycles. Should I reply with an equally stupid response saying powerlifters don't incorporate snatches and clean and jerks? No... because that would be as pointless as your post.
I said elite weightlifters have crazy pressing strength because they do.
Here's a push press. Front delts and triceps are heavily involved in this lift as with all pressing movements.
Deadlift yes, but front squat a2g and ohp? No. But nice try.
A powerlifter lacks not only the skill/technique but also the athleticism, power and explosiveness to snatch and clean and jerk.
Fact of the matter is elite Olympic weightlifters would fare far better at the bench than elite powerlifters would at the snatch or clean and jerk. Make excuses all you want I don't care but facts are facts.
Weightlifters > Powerlifters
that's like saying elite football players are better at the bench than elite bench pressers are at throwing a football. no shit dude, the latter is a HEAVILY skill based event, the former is pure brute force. powerlifters have far stronger muscles, olympic lifters are far more coordinated and agile. it's really that simple, and using how good one would be at the other is unfair because the bench can be done with ZERO skill. it might not be an optimized lift, but just to press a barbell from your chest to lockout needs absolutely no "practice" in order to successfully complete the lift. that is far from the case with olympic lifting.
olympic gymnasts, on average, can bench double their bodyweight on the bench despite not training it. why? benching requires fuck all in terms of coordination. if you have strong triceps/shoulders and your chest isn't completely atrophied, you can bench a lot of weight. it doesn't matter when the last time you sat on a bench was. i hadn't done a bench in a few months and a while ago just to fuck around i hit close-grip with a full pause 275x3 weighing 200lb.
by the way, the funniest part of all this? i do olympic lifting, and i follow guys like klokov on youtube. i heavily prefer oly lifting, i find it a more enjoyable and athletic pursuit (i actually do outlaw crossfit), so your blabbing at me about oly lifting like i don't know who these guys are or how strong they are (did you miss the part where I mentioned klokov presses?) is kinda funny. i just get annoyed when people compare strength sport A to strength sport B as though the lifts are on an even keel.
FWIW, here's benedikt magnusson, a guy who NEVER olympic lifts, power cleaning and pressing 375 just fucking around.
