I'm confused about America's right to free speech
« on: April 28, 2014, 07:14:48 AM »
You always hear about America fighting wars to ensure our Freedom, protecting the first amendment and the right to free speech, but as soon as someone says something you disagree with, the media causes an unnecessary shitstorm over it.

Recently The Clippers owner said some racist remarks and everyone wants him out of the NBA.  Sure his remarks are stupid but isn't it his right to think the way he does?  Where is it written that you must think like everyone else and share the same opinion as everyone else?

The CEO of Mozilla was kicked out for donating money against gay marriage.  Again, using his right to free speech and he gets fucking persecuted over it.

God forbid someone ever says something negative about the Jews.  We all know how that turned out for some people.  Marge Schott the former owner of the Cincinnati Reds was forced out.  Mel Gibson was black listed.

America has an odd sense of freedom.  You're only considered free if you are doing what the other sheep are doing or otherwise you get raked over the coals.

It relates to law enforcement and prison, not to saying whatever you want with no negative repercussions in the court of public opinion.

Although Sterling's is a unique case since what he said was said in private.

I thought freedom of speech and being hateful are two different things.

Example: You can criticize your president, his policies and performance..etc without fear of prosecution (unlike many middle eastern countries) that's freedom of speech. Calling your president a dirty n***** and a mongrel, that's not freedom of speech, that's wanting the right to insult someone.

Clippers guy said he doesn't want a specific race of people to be brought into his games, nor does he want his woman to be pictured or socially hang out with a specific race of people, this is racist plain and simple. I really don't see any relevance between this and freedom of speech  ???

Still, in such cases there can be information shared, but I think Diablo wonders why the media seems to support group think. People should be informed, not led.

Doesn't he have the right to not want certain people at his games?  It is his opinion said in private.  If people don't agree then just don't buy his product or go to his games.  I would be annoyed as well if my White GF was getting photographed with blacks all the time.  He's not stupid, he knows that most blacks don't respect relationships and or marriages and even though she's his girlffriend that they'd still hit on her and want to fuck her.

I didn't hear his exact words are people sure he was not describing someone or two certain people. example ( I don't want those black guy's in here)? I laughed at Magic Johnsons commit that he should not be allowed to own his team anymore. Then I thought of the way Johnson was a womanizer and Is looked to as an authority on morality and ethics. Whatever.

It's basic common sense. The man doesn't want his girlfriend hanging around certain types of people just like anyone here railing against the man wouldn't want there's to be either.

Complete hypocrisy and one of the reasons large portions of blacks just aren't taken seriously in this country.

No white man or woman has ever been unfaithful  ::) but I'll steer clear from this argument as I am not familiar with the US cultural differences and how your views may have been influenced by your experiences.

So let's say you wanted to buy a product or a ticket for a game and you got refused or pushed a side purely based on the race you are, do you think this is fair and juste? Whoever enforced this or tried to or wants to but can't is a racist.

What I don't get is how people want to be racist and enforce their beliefs and then cry when people point the finger saying don't call me racist "I am merely exercising my freedom of speech"...be racist all day and night but atleast be honest about who you are and what you are.

No official stats on "faithfulness" or kept but divorce rates are pretty similar between blacks and whites.

Why is it that the last two or three years blacks are acting like babies screaming to the media about the "N" word and racism?  It's been around for ever and it seems with Obama as pres that it has become the number two bitching issue within America behind the gay agenda.

Honestly, I don't get how a secretly taped, private conversation is causing such a stir.  It's not like he put it on a billboard.  He was about to get an award from the NAACP for Pete's sake.

Again, why is it news?

THIS JUST IN: 80 year old, rich white man not being politically correct... Did not drop nbomb... Doesn't want gf hanging around with aids riddled womanizer...  More news at 11

It's common over here in Europe too, but recent years I am starting to see a shift where people just don't take the whining serious anymore and rightly so.

It's like the Boy who cried Wolf.

People just get tired of hearing the complaining all the time over minor bullshit.

If a black person of decent character TRULY is being discriminated against because of his skin color yeah that's horrible.

But for this big ole dog and pony show over an old man who doesn't want his girlfriend hanging around certain types of people is just retarded. Especially when the majority of people on camera would be saying the exact same thing to their girlfriends but likely in more harsher terms.

The guy isn't going to face criminal charges, so his first amendment rights aren't being compromised

However, the NBA might feel that having a (semi) openly racist owner may compromise profitability, so they have the right to take necessary actions in order to maintain their profitability.

Same thing with Mozilla, Paula Deen, Dog the Bounty Hunter, etc, etc

i really can't see how this guy can be racist, Wiggs himself defended himself against a racism accusation (vs whites) by saying his first wife was white.

Why would he go into a sport that has the most african americans in the world? only teams with more blacks are based in sub-saharan africa.

Magic also allegedly dabbled in the cock...Although he is very well liked and considered a "good" guy, he's not the person he claims to be...

You have the freedom to say anything that you want and not be held legally accountable for it. You do not have the the ability to be free of all of the ramifications of what you say. Boycotts and media shunning are popular ways to stifle non-PC thought.

Whether he is or not, that's how the public perceives him....and as a public figure within the NBA, that's not good for them.

Besides, this is hardly his first racial controversy.  Back in 2006, he was sued by the Department of Justice for discriminatory housing practices and had to pay like $10 million in restitution.  And a few years ago he was sued by one of his black coaches for discrimination in the workplace.

Sure, there are more egregious examples of racism out there.  But as an executive in a multi-billion dollar organization--especially one as "black" as the NBA--there is a certain code of conduct to which one needs to adhere.

Free Speech is long gone, even in America because it runs contrary to the control structure. Touch a nerve that really runs through an agenda and you'll run into an official wall pretty quickly or at least be ridiculed and stripped of your eligibility to participate in society.

How can an abomination like Political Correctness go on a crusade against various dissenters in a society where freedom of speech has a solid footing.

.
