Yeah too bad all the good schools are in Canada?  ::) The poor USA high school grad has no where to go here!

LOL, The poor USA highschool grad is hardly literate enough to fill out the application to attend.

Quote
Yale, Harvard, Stanford, U.C. at Berkely, MIT, and the list goes on... How many students from around the world including Canada flock to these schools?

You don't really think a typical American primary or secondary education can produce students capable of functioning in those institutions do you. Foreign students have to attend, otherwise those places would be empty, ...would shut down ...would have to close their doors forever.  :o

OMG.....you are fricken hilarious Jaggy.  I always knew that you thought you were stuck on yourself and thought WAY to highly of yourself, but to think that Canada is better than America?  Opinion is granted, but to be so ignorant to start a thread that way you did?  That is a joke and that is pure blasphemy........even for Getbig.com.  What a coincidence on how you view yourself and your view of Canada.  Get a clue, your advice or your Canada isn't worth s**t.  Get of your high horse, for "Pride does come before the fall".....in case you haven't read it lately.

Jag trumpeting the virtues of Canada compared to the United States indicates the weakness of her case. If what she said were true, it would be self-evident and blowing her horn would be unnecessary.

From what I've seen, Canadians who have gone as far as they can go in Canada come to the U.S to make it big. Losers who can't cut it here go to Canada where the competition isn't as great.

The other type of Canadian that comes across the border is someone who needs an operation and doesn't want stand in line for six months waiting for socialized medicine.

The bottom line is that arguing with a liberal is a waste of time, as they aren't interested in any idea that might fly in the face of their flawed ideology. At the same they run around calling everyone who doesn't agree with them "fascists," and they're too smug and arrogant to see the hypocrisy of this attitude.

The way to deal with liberals, especially the women, is to tell them to go fuck themselves right from the get go.  Then they won't have anything to do with you because they see they can't control you, but, hey, all the better.

Hahaha! Not necesaaaaaarily! I used to get hammered at poker 'cause everyone at the table could read me like a book. Til I figured out why. Then I started mixing it up, and would get all excited over nothing, as well as when I had a good hand. Now I kick everyone's butt. Favourite game: Texas Hold 'em. You have an open invitation to play me anytime, ...see if I don't wipe up the table with ya! Mwahahahahaha!

The only people singing the praises of privatized medicine are those who rarely get sick (i.e. the young and the healthy). Wait till you hit 40 and need to see the doctor more often and then wait until you get hit by bills you can't afford.
PS: Your insurance is only a false sense of security especially when they can use the legalese to deny you compensation. And when you get older your premiums will eat away at your pensions and mutual funds pay outs if you are lucky. If you are unlucky the insurance companies will refuse to cover you.

I have never met a Canadian I have liked (most of them are hypocrites and frauds). The French-Canadians on the other hand for the most part are excellent folk. Wonder why Quebec still lives under the Crown. But socialized medicine is not one of their ills. (PS check out the statistics, of all the first world industrialized countries those having subsidized medicine usually have the highest life expectancy).

I don't get where you stand on the socialized medicine?  I have insurane, which I pay $125 per week.  I've had to use it many times and the meds I take monthly would cost over $800.  I pay $94 in co-pays.  I've been on the meds for almost 5 years, so it's been a good deal so far.  Dr. bills are another story, but without insurance, My wife, daughter and myself would be fvcked.  What do you think My situtation would be in Canada?  For me insurance has been a God send.

Don't know much about Canada. But in the UK you would pay next to nothing in insurance. You pay what amounts to a "medical" tax. Then you fall ill be it a little cut that needs a tetanus shot or some serious operation you don't pay a dime. Thats real insurance where you don't have to fill forms, wonder when you are lying in bed if the repo-men will be visiting your house. Wondering if you will have to buy generic or brand or wondering if a root canal is a "pre-existing" condition. Most mental illnesses are not covered. Many plans don't cover preventive medicine i.e. annual comprehensive check-ups. There is such a thing as extremism. Extreme capitalism and extreme socialism are both problematic. In the 80's we had now fat diets (read NO fat). And now we have low carb diet still you see fatties all around. I think the issue is that people are greedy. Wonder why American mistrust for government is greater than their mistrust for the insurance cos.

This really has nothing to do with the topic so do excuse me ;)

I went to Canada years ago to get my breast implants. When the customs officer asked why we were visiting my mom pipes up 'she's going to the doctor'. Big mistake. Next thing I know we're in some back room for 6 hours getting the 3rd degree as they thought I was there trying to get some free healthcare. They were threatening to lock us up and all. Eventually the doctor had to fax the receipt to show I had pre paid for the surgery.

$800 a month for meds?  :o What the heck are you on... AZT? j/k
Wow Buff,  $594 a month for health insurance and meds is a lot.

In Canada, you would have had an extra $35, 640 in your pocket.

And just like snatch_clean says: get sick, need attention, whether small cut or major surgery, you don't pay a dime. No costs for doctors visits or medical procedures etc., No forms to fill out, no wondering if what you need is covered. Just visit the doc, and he swipes your card. Once every four years, you go to get your picture taken for a new card.

Some employers & institutions offer extended health coverage which takes care of things not covered by OHIP like prescriptions. Most I've seen are either completely free or with a 10% co-pay for scripts. For years my extended coverage was 100% free prescriptions, even included free dental care including teeth bleaching  :D The doc would fax the script over, and it was delivered to my house the next day, ...or if I didn't want to wait 24 hrs for it, I could pay 10% and have it immediately filled at a pharmacy.

CQ: <LOL> You said the wrong thing!  ;D

When it comes to getting into Canada, ...going to the doctor is on the list of top 10 things you DON'T want to be saying. HA! My girlfriend encountered a similar situation in 93 when entering the USA. She was 3 months pregnant and had already has 2 miscarriages. Her and her husband were going down to San Diego to spend some time with her Dad who lived there, then on to LV to spend time with her Mom who lived there. Because of her previous miscarriages, the doc didn't want her driving in a car for days on end, so the plan was for her husband to drive down there in the Gulf Stream, and she'd fly to SD after he arrived. At the airport US immigration questioned her about why she hadn't gone down with her husband, and when she said she was pregnant, they freaked. They thought she was trying to enter the US to have her baby, so her baby could be an American citizen. It was ludicrous considering the fact that both her Belgian born parents already have dual Canadian/US citizenship. Finally she looked the guy dead in the eyes and said "Are you on drugs? Seriously, ...are you? Why the f*ck would I want to have a baby in the USA when I can have it in Canada and be covered by OHIP?" The guy turned bright red, and let her get on the plane.

Yep 800, if I didn't have insurance.  My co payements are 50 for Oxycontin which I must take for cronic shoulder pain.  Ir's for instant releif are generic and only cost 7.  I take atavin to deal with all the bullshit, generic, so once again 7 and lastly lidacain patches, which the co is 30.  My monthly bill is $94 without insurance it would be over 800.  The Oxy's are $350 and the patches are 300 so with my 125 monthly bill and co pays, I figure I save over 1000 a month.  It's the poor bastards with no insurance who get screwed, you would think, but they go on welfare and everything's paid for.  It's the  capitalist way.  If you can pay, you pay.  If you're broke or don't make enough, there are resources to take care of you.  That's the beauty of being an American.  Oh yea 9 bucks a week for dental.  Just a drop in the bucket.

I suppose paying $594 a month is a little better than $800/month plus doctor visits  :-\

But the scenario you lay out is still a little harse imo. You need meds but can't pay for them...so you die? ...Or, ...you go on welfare so meds are covered (but you can't afford to eat now... so you die) Sounds like a no-win situation to me.

I just can't relate. I'm a Canadian who has grown up with health care coverage. I know no other way, ...and as much as I try to envision another scenario, I cannot. Nor would I even want to. It's just one of those fundamental differences between our two country's ideologies that I doubt will ever change. The idea of not being able to have health care when you need it is just anathema to Canadians. That's why customs officials are so spooked about non-Canadians crossing our borders who are in need of health care. It's not unusual for Canadians to lend their health cards to Americans crossing our borders. lol. In Ontario, they're trying to stem the tide of this by now having digitized photos and signatures on health cards, but, previous ones didn't have those.

Thats too much. 800 bucks a month! Even if you make 8000 a month thats a good 10% trimmed off each month. With socialized med you would pay one flat amount and it doesnt matter what condition you suffer from a headache or need a by-pass you pay the same. I think that is real insurance!

Besides with the myriad of different providers in the US there are literal 100's of plans each with their own premiums, deductibles, co-pay, level of coverage, and annual maximum out pocket expenses. And you cant get a good deal. If the premium+co-pay+maximum annual out of pocket expense limit is low then you can be sure that you have a shitty coverage with a lot of loopholes with which the insurance co will trap you. If you have to get a good package u gotta be a state or federal employee or make lots of money to afford a really good peace of mind package. Or else you better be a highly educated professional (doctor, engineer, scientist, or lawyer, top level management professional etc)or have a good employer like IBM,  Intel or the pharmaceutical cos who in general give their employees excellent packages.

If you are self employed and dont make big money, or are blue collar, or work a non-professional white collar job(aren't a doctor, scientist, engineer or lawyer but instead are an accountant, clerk, secretary, technician) then you better stay healthy.
