No question about it , drugs do add size and a freaky look that is needed to win today.
If shawn failed the test at that ASC, how come at least Mike passed it, if he was on. Hmmm, no matter, Shawn stayed in the game and ended his involvement sport with one of the most impressive careers or any top pro, even better than a a couple Mr O's like Dickerson or Sammir.

GENETICS is the real "secret" to being a top bodybuilder, singer or pro athlete. Drugs can't turn a horse jockey into Mr O , can they? hehe
On a serious note, unlike most sports , the drug myth keeps the insane dream alive for a lot of wannabe pros out there with lousy genetics. The truth and reality is a tough pill to swallow for some, kinda like W and his belief on how great Iraq is going

This logic amazes me, he has to be on drugs becuae he looked good, hmmm, and nobody can develop decent mass without them. I think it is the 99% that can't obtain his kind of physique 'with drugs' and need to blame it on drugs that is odd.

Come on, you should know that when pple got caught at that time, it was for a question of bad timing.
I'm not saying that Mike ashley was not natural, I don't know.

There was a pic of him that I found fantastic. He had "old school" red shorts and was one arm up. Any one has it?

Uhh Howie, take a look at Shawn's pics from the Junior Nationals at age 19 or 20. When you speak of genetics, Shawn was a true freak. Don't try to tell me that a natural Mike Ashley had half of Shawn's ability to build muscle mass. Try to pull Mike's AAU Teen pics and see who the natural is. And then try to tell me that Mike added more muscle and made more improvements NATURAL than Shawn did WITH DRUGS? That sounds like one of those 70's articles..."Steroids do not promote muscle growth...egg protein does!"

And when you look at pics of Ashley's face, try to ignore the tell-tale lantern jaw, the face-within-a-face and of course, the GH elbow. How'd he pass the drug test? The same way our Summer Olympic track team does every four years. Steroids +GH all off-season long. GH + steroids - oil-based steroids beginning 12 weeks out.

I have no respect for a guy on that level at the time who went out of his way to proclaim how natural he was. What a douche ! Anyway, He hung out with, traveled with, trained with, and stayed with another pro throughout the 80's who I've talked with on several occasions. He told me It drove him crazy ( this pro Is and has been Natural all his life. ) That Mike Ashley was doing all kinds of shit while the were traveling together and making appearances. This pro I'm talking about placed very low in the 1988 Mr O . which Is amazing considering he Is 100 percent natural and no one has ever doubted or protested it. He competed at about 185 lbs. Thats a far as ill go with that. So there is your answer for a Fact !!!! Mike Ashley was a lier.

I think Shawn Ray beating Mike Ashley and Mike taking the title from the "cheater" is very ironic. It is like in the 88 Olympics where Carl Lewis who has been proven to have used all kind of stuff took the gold medal from Ben Johnson who might have been taking less than Carl.

I heard that stuff, too. I think it was Jean Paul Guillaume who was appalled at what Mike Ashley was doing on the side while claiming to be natural.

Maybe Mike was natural at some point in his BB career and he might have been on less stuff than others but I tend to doubt very strongly his proclaimed lifelong drug free status.

And regarding the food log: Andy Muenzer kept one too, he was very meticulous about it and did I mention he passed a drug test, too ?

Mike didn't have a say in the Results of the Drug test?
Mike Christian passed the Test too and he NEVER claimed to be natural and had inside info regarding passing the test I later learned after he stopped competing.
Now when you associate Balco, Victor Conte and Ashley together prior to the Arnold, you have to ask yourself............Why would Mike lie about being Natural?
Why would he Not pass a Drug test?

The other Natural, Skip LaCour, has a twin brother who is as genetically gifted as Skip. He looks like he's on and trains is ass off, but he doesn't. Now if Skip can look like he does and he's religious about dieting, even how much salt he puts on food, that he travels with a George Forman Grill and a rice steamer. Mike could be the genetic freak that Skip is. I never believed it till I saw him with his bro at a show where he was guest posing and his brother was selling Skips pics and AST sups at a booth. When Skip came and took over it looked like the same guy in baggies. Genetics are a 1 in 1000 shot, but some people just have to look at a weight and they grow. I hate the pricks.

I personally asked a few IFBB pro's about Mike's claim & they all had the same answer, " Well, I guess he could be considered natural, Cause growth hormone is not considered a steroid." Words to that effect. Looking at him, that jaw-line & forehead look suspect. You can't see it in these photo's, but the man had the pointiest elbow's I ever saw which is supposedly another sign.

Shawn is being very diplomatic. Mike was not natural, everyone knew it.As far as Skip La Cour being natural, hes as natural as Mike Ashley.

Very dumb post. Training knowledge hasn't increased, machines have gotten worse, and supplements make very little difference.

Also, I don't see how he's "light years" ahead of today's natural competitors. He can't weigh much over 200 in those photos.

I thought Ashley admitted to using in a Muscle Mag article around 2001-2? He said he was natural, but then would use for only like 10 weeks prior to a contest. He said people would see him 'off' and be like "man, I can beat this guy." Then he would use for 2 and a half months and win. Anyone else ever read this? Maybe being on for only 2 months, he called himself natural?

Shawn, stop crying and get providing for your family (2nd on the way, right?). With the questionable supplements you promote for Vyotech with NO scientific basis or substaniation, you should not be calling out anyone.
