Bob Chick’s training
« on: March 30, 2006, 05:16:22 PM »
I am watching war of the world and it occurred to me that these guys are just punching the clock.  They are taking minutes in between sets, joking around and playing games. Clearly pushing the work out is not the priority.  He then makes the comment of listening to your body, is that euphemism for taking it easy?

Where is the training intensity? Where is the extra effort? There is a thread floating around about training intensity, clearly “supplements” such as vitamin c and a multi is playing the bigger role.

On a different note, thanks for the tip about training Bis.  Mine are looking "fuller" because your tip talked about training the outer bi by doing close grips. I like most people over focus on wide grip thus training over training the inner bi.
Here comes the money shot

what.

Well don't forget, Bob's training for close to 30 years.  Obviously results will come if you keep at it for so long.  Seems to have worked for him.

Ill agree Chick knows a lot about bodybuilding, since he has been doing it for 50 years.. BUT with that being said, i will say he trains with NO intensity, and it's pretty clear that his worth ethic in the gym (ACCORDING to the war of the worlds vid) is total crap..

Genetically speaking, even if he trained like Ronnie or Levrone, he'd still be a crappy bber

People should not go overboard with "hardcore" workouts. That is a recipe for burning out. Overtraining is the enemy of overzealous bodybuilders everywhere.

In Chicks defence it's just not him that doesn't train hard, it's about 90% of the pro's out there and if you think I'm kidding just walk into a gym where some of the pros train. Don't let the videos fool you, they only do it for the camera. In reality...there is no intensity.

Wrong. I do squats while on roller skates. It really builds the balancing muscles and makes me more nimble. I can now do 8 reps with one plate a side. Before you laugh, try it yourself. It is a hell of a hard exercise.

Deadlifts on roller skates provide similar benefits. Wrestling does a good job of building some of the smaller muscles. Find a strong man or a skilled grappler and wrestle with him at least twice a week.

actually Chick and most others trained harder then most imagine to get the size on them...Once you got the muscle on you, it doesn't take shit to really keep it...Muscle memory is a great thing...

Chick is 40 years old with other things going on...Do you really think he cares about giving 100% like his old days...Sure he may say he will but it doesn't work that way..

Also what most don't understand about the mind muscle connection...alot of guys can yell, scream and train to failure all day long but unless they have the mind muscle connection..What they are doing is basically the same as the guy standing in the corner talking to the broad...

you never know what is going on in someones head at the time of reps being down...and sound effects are fucking silly for most...

Let me ask you guys something

King does squats with 6 plates on the smith for 10 reps resting at the top wrapped up yelling through each one...Gets done his set and procedes to walk around like a bad ass and pats himself on the back for what he just did...That is all great

take another guy that does the same but after his set, tells jokes, laughs and what not...

my question is who is more intense...by watching most would say king but why?  He could be thinking of S.Ray through the whole set...about what he is going to do to him ect...

the other guy could be thinking about the contraction he is doing and just the feel itself...

Which one is really more intense????

Just out of interest - how did Bob Chic get his pro card? Not knocking the guy but I just can't think back to a nationals competition he could have won like the NPC Nationals. Was it the North American?

not really sticking up for Bob Chick but it doesn't matter if you joke around between sets if you're intense and working hard DURING THE SET, seems to me that the guys who are super serious and scowling and listening to headphones in the gym are 160 lbs. for the most part.

I look back and think that the guys who stayed the same were the ones who were the hardcore so to speak scream and make noise during sets thinking that the harder they amke the set the better

now the guys who have the best physiques and overall balance long term(and this is most important, no point grunting and being an intensity machine in the gym if you are burned out and injured and cant train by age 35) are the ones who have learned to channel thier energy and intensity properly so it will work for them positively for many years to come rather then to just burn out and fade away.
