Saxons = Group of Germanic Tribe that always has lived in the area where Germany is, even in Roman Times, who then settled in Great BRitain during the early Middle Ages.

Normans = Vikings who raided France (Rollo et al), created Normandy in France, and then went to Britain.

Yes, read up on Alexander Spotswood and his thoughts on his German indentured servants versus his "other" ones. Germans are very smart people, except for their stupidity after World War Two, which I assume is brought on my collective guilt. I'm going to disagree, that there was ever a chance German would've been spoken over English in this country. English though, is a mix of German and French, which goes back to the Norman conquest of 1066. I guess it seems there has always been trouble with unwanted refugees in Europe...

That's actually true.

I assume you knew it, so I'll give the Cliff notes version.

In 1945 as Berlin was about to fall , the American and Russian forces
scrambled to get as  many German Nazi rocket scientists to surrender to their side.

The USA got Werner Von Braun and some other top minds, and the USSR got their share.
The media billed the space race ( late 50's to '69) as a Russia vs America race.
The reality is it was two different teams of mostly Germans that competed .
