Trap bar deadlifts are the key
« on: June 03, 2018, 09:09:43 PM »
This lift works 90% of skeletal muscle. I can accurately predict an athletes 40 yard dash and vertical simply by his trap bar deadlift to weight ratio. The front squat and back squat are not as accurate. The moment I add these in my routine I immediately gain 3-4 pounds of muscle and gain immediate thickness. Guys avoid them because they aren't as hardcore as regular deadlifts, but I've learned to put my ego at the door and for me time is money. I'm not competing in a powerlifting meet any time soon so why would I bother with conventional deadlifts? You can generate more power with trap bar deadlifts compared to a conventional deadlift and use more weight which will translate to more hypertrophy, power, and strength over time. Strongly recommend these fellas, all my back problems have gone away as well.

Don’t know where to start on the 40/Vert calc based on a trap bar DL, but if that’s what you believe, more power to you

Same could be said of any heavy compound movement if done correctly..hence the term “compound movement”

I've just started doing trap bar deadlifts. A safe and effective exercise. Very underrated. EVERYONE should be doing these.

Was the weirdest thing. Was doing heavy good mornings one day with 315, which was stupid as hell but I was really trying to push my dL to 700 at the time. Next day I could barely walk or get out of bed. Took a few weeks off, and hurt it again front squatting. Took another two weeks off, hurt it back squatting. Couldn’t even do trap bar deadlifts at that point. Finally took two months off and didn’t load the spine  at all, so far so good been doing these 3 weeks with no pain and I’m gaining my old size back. I never go over 585 though, no belt, really concentrate on perfect form. I enjoy them.

I do standing overhead presses with the TB. Feels better on the shoulders than conventional for me.

Much easier on the lower back, specially for those of us w/ disc problems. Best is to the original where the handles are inline with the bar, and not the raised ones.
Though those work fine too. I stand on a small wooden box at the gym to make up for the raised handles.

Deadlifts overrated exercise. I see young punks in the Gym lifting heavy weights on Deads with little back development.

Conventional deadlifts I definitely agree. The trap bar deadlift just makes me thicker everywhere and I find my other lifts go up quite a bit from it

Cap Mega Hex -

www.amazon.com/Barbell-Weight-2-Inch-Plated-Olympic/dp/B076MKQF1P .

The Rogue Trap Bars are nice too, very clean, and made in the USA, but $300 - 375.

In truth, you don't need an expensive one just one that has good sized sleeves (16"+), and good inside depth. Those two have it.

Straight bar - Hip dominant

Trap bar - Knee dominant

There's the difference.

I'll use a straight bar for linemen/backers because that's close to the stance they are on the line. Trap bar for skills because of the more upright, athletic stance they're in.

Bro I’ve seen you do pulldowns at the Edge 😎

When you coming back to the Edge I need a spot on db presses
