I am talking the Constitution here. We have freedom of speech in our own private sphere (at home, mostly on social media) and in the public sphere (Amendment 1 to the Constiturion) but not as employees in the corporate sphere. So the NFL could certainly require their players to stand if they want them too. They just don’t seem to want to go that route (marketing and perceptions).

By the way, I don’t go for calling law enforcement officers “pigs”. That’s a complex and often thankless job. So even though I think of myself as more “liberal” than “conservative” and bristle at the Commander in Chief tweeting about this topic (that he has nothing to do with), I don’t think I will purchase any Nike products.

That may be your opinion and the opinion of many and public opinion is certainly important but CONSTITUTIONALLY the employer can do whatever they want with regard to their employees. Government cannot tell private companies what to do on a subject like this.

You're right Dez is about money but at the same time he's not worth the headache for teams because he's not the player he thinks he is. The Ravens were the only team to offer a contract, the Browns brought him in for a visit but no offer.

Rice was on the team until September 8 2014 when he was released after TMZ released the video footage.

Prior to that the Ravens said he would serve the 2 game suspension imposed by the NFL and the team would get him the counseling/treatment he needed.

This is a perfect example of what I was talking about. The video shows the tail end of a situation without providing any context as to what led up to it. I recall another one like this back in the day with the cops roughing up some guy outside a nightclub, but the video didn’t show him first getting kicked out of the club and then being unruly in the parking lot and the staff having to finally call the police.

Usually most of the comments in those threads are by idiot liberal women who would never be cops and if they had to do the job wouldn’t last a day working in one of those neighborhoods dealing with that sort of person. It’s like you said in another thread, liberals are always championing  causes that they’d want nothing to do with in their day-to-day lives.
