Children just aren’t going to know what snow is
« on: January 30, 2019, 09:03:17 PM »
The Independent seems to have scrubbed the article, but the internet is forever.  This didn’t age well:

“However, the warming is so far manifesting itself more in winters which are less cold than in much hotter
summers. According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU)
of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”.

“Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” he said.

2 degrees this morning on the mid-Atlantic east coast.  Brrr!

Just talked with my sister in Buffalo, NY.  3 feet of snow and -20 wind chill.  State of emergency.

This is what I have been saying. If it’s really getting warmer, there should be a higher highs and higher lows. Now, they’re moving the goalposts and saying that any kind of extreme weather is climate change. This is why they changed the name from global warming, so that they can claim victory no matter what happens.

So this was from a scientist in the U.K.?  I'm not familiar with the weather and geography there.  Is it like the U.S. where you have pretty much no seasons like Florida and mid-lower Cali, and the southern border states and other areas are like the midwest and northeast in the States?  Or is snow a less common thing there as a whole anyway?

As much shit as I give libs for not paying attention, you just made me realize that the reporting shift from "global warming" to "climate change" went right past me.  :-[

Read Ayn Rand's Return of the Primitive: The Anti-Industrial Revolution.  She destroys the libtards on global cooling in the 1970's.  Then it became acid rain, global warming and now climate change but the solution for the left is always the same....more government control over the private sector.  The made up crisis changes but the solution always stays the same.

Yes, the U.K has seasons, though by being an island (albeit a large one), the maritime effect moderates the highs and lows.

Thanks for enlightening me Moontrane.   8)  Never had a desire to leave the states so I honestly didn't know.  I don't think I'd ever go to the UK, but I'm starting to re-assess my desire about not checking out somewhere else with the crazy shit here lately.

I was waiting for someone to use the recent cold snap as proof that the climate isn't warming. Oregon is having one of the mildest winters I can remember over the last 50 years. Were also (for us) having a bit of a drought. Thanks to likely El Niño.

January was couple of degrees above average. There’s nothing historic about that as opposed to the record breaking lows in the Midwest.

You do realize permanent climate change is gradual and encompasses the whole world. Short-term seasonal record breaking temperatures are far less an indicator of climate change than longterm global changes are. Anything that and anyone who breaks a record is 'historic' until a new record breaks it.

I realize climate change is whatever the fuck libtards want it to be in order to promote this ridiculous narrative which, as is always the case, has as its endgame taking resources out of the private sector and putting them into the hands of politicians and bureaucrats.

As I said earlier, that’s why the name was changed from global warming to climate change, so victory could be claimed regardless of what happens.

Well how the hell gradual are we supposed to get our panties in a bunch about Prime?  Til someone posted about the acid rain thing, I completely forgot about learning about that in 3rd or 4th grade and being afraid to have to make my 1.5 mile walk to or from school when it was raining out until I finally jumped in a puddle barefoot and realized my skin didn't dissolve.

Then came the O-Zone layer, and girls were supposed to stop using aqua-net to tease their bangs up.  Then global warming, and now climate change.

When the lakes start disappearing, and fish evolve into new land creatures I might finally start to take this shit seriously again.  Notice how it's mostly people on the west coast that are assured it's taking place.  Visit the midwest a couple winters in a row and stay for a spell.  It might make you re-think this.

I'm not a meteorologist, nor do I have a background in weather science. So, like most folks in the world, I rely on what these educated specialists have to say about global warming.

Seventeen of the 18 warmest years in the 136-year record all have occurred since 2001, with the exception of 1998. The year 2016 ranks as the warmest on record. (Source: NASA/GISS). This research is broadly consistent with similar constructions prepared by the Climatic Research Unit and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Check this interactive world map out by moving the scroll at the bottom . It's interesting to see how global warming has escalated in recent years.  The time series shows the five-year average variation of global surface temperatures. Dark blue indicates areas cooler than average. Dark red indicates areas warmer than average.
